International Hostel.. Great Experience

Its a great point where to share experiences with people from all over the world.... from countries that go from Argentina or Canada .. up to India or Japan, going through peolpe from all around Europe. This hostel is runned by Giorge and Madi who are a very nice, easy going couple from town. Its actually them that have given Chess Hostel the personality that we all like... Its nice to feel like at home... when you are miles away.

Unique Quality: Its situated in a quiet street in the centre... perfect to seat in the terrase to relax for a while, charge the batteries to walk all around the centre. The best way to get in contact with local young people, Giorge and Madi are always around to help you with anything you need.

Sibiu's Hostel for Young People

The second stop of our 3-week Balkan tour with our mini-van was in Sibiu. The hostel at the main plaza of the city was booked out, so they recommended us the Chess Hostel. Parking was no problem for our mini-van, they had an electric-controlled gated parking lot behind the hostel, room enough for maybe 3 mini-vans.

The hostel itself is owned by two young, friendly people. The guests usually gathered in small groups in front of the hostel in the shade where they had benches and smalltalked there either with the hosts or other guests.

As for the rooms etc.: They were very clean. Simple, white walls and simple, comfortable beds, nice atmosphere. The rooms were cool in July, maybe because as far as I remember they were on the west side. In terms of hygiene there was really nothing to complain about. The toilets, showers, etc. were cleaner than hostels I stayed in in Canada or London.

And the location: It is perhaps 5 minutes of walk away from the center. The location is silent, hardly any cars, far away from big streets, lots of green. Seemed to me like an affluent district.

Unique Quality: It is a normal hostel without any special features, but it fulfills the basic requirements (hygiene, quietness, etc.) perfectly. What this hostel offers: Kitchen, fridge, freezer, window shutter (in case you don't want to be woken up by the light), gated parking area.
