Drum 7C (Sebes-almost Sibiu) trough Munti Cindrel and Munti Lotrului?
by 68maciek
Buna ziua,
It's hard to imagine my holidays without few days in Romania.
This time I would like to follow the mountain car road Sebes-Sibiu (a junction from Transalpina route). I'd like to stay in cabana close to the pass. Which cabana do you reccommend? I'd like to have oneday hiking tour there (preferably a kind of loop).Any idea please?
Multumesc,
Maciek

Multumesc. I found the cabana close to Tartar pass (and a lake). According to one web travel relation the manager knows a bit of Polish (Romanians are enormous in languages). I can probably find some information about hiking there.

Sure I want to stop there- it's one of thsese Sieben Burger places if I'm right.I'm going to to take more west Apuseni road from Oradea (through Ursilor or Meziad cave). If everything goes well I expect to be in Debrecen on next Thursday, then in Sebes area on next Friday (9.07). The only problem can be that it can be evening. So can you recommend me not expensive (my level for Poland/Romania is ~~120 ROL/PLN for 3/4 persons room preferable with a bathroom) accommodation in Sebes area.Camping (a tent pitch) ground is also an option. But the cheaper (but also descent) the better- people from Krakow have a reputation in Poland of being very mean hahaha.
If we come reasonable earlier I'd like to stop after Tartar pass in the cabana.
As being a secret Gypsy King my route is always full of adventures and unexpected events so timing is often due to changes (it starts with packing at home hahaha)
But anyway it will be great to meet you in Sebes. Let's exchange mails with mobile phones.
Travel Tips for Sibiu
The city of Sibiu is the...
by Rosca_SB
The city of Sibiu is the most important city in the county. It is situated in the longitude of 24° 29' North and in the latitude of 45° 48’ East, near the geographical centre of Romania.
Set in the Cibin Depression, the city is near to Fãgãraº Mountains (about. 20 km), Cibin Mountains (12 km), and Lotrului Mountains (about 15km), which border the depression in the south-western part.
The north and east boundaries of Sibiu territory are settled by Târnavelor Plateau which descends to the Cibin Valley through Guºteriþei Hill.
Cibin river and some roads of national and international interest run through Sibiu which is also an important city for the railway transportation, being the meeting point of routes from east-west and north-south.
The surface of the city amounts to 12.163 hectares representing 2,2% of the county surface.
The climate here is temperate-continental with average temperature of 8,9° C. The lowest temperature (-31° C) was recorded on January the 4th 1929, whereas the highest (37,5° C) was recorded on July the 25th 1987.
The multi-annual average of precipitation is 662 l/mp, and the number of days of hard frost is about 120 / year.
Church on hill in Cisnadie
by tijs
Between the city of Sibiu and the Fagaras Mountains in the South is a hidden village laying in a valley and surrounded by green forests: the German village Heltau, in Romanian Cisnadie. On top of the hill the Saxons built a mighty fortified church in 1430.
To get on top of the hill, you need to get the key of the gate. We asked a people in the village about it and they sent us to a German speaking family. A little girl (see below) who speaks native German brought us the key, so we had the hill for ourselves to hike up the hill and see the very carefully renovated church.
On the top there is a wonderful view on the little village with its red roofs (and its strange large police office). Inside the church was a very strange atmosphere, because of the silence and the emptiness.
If you want to stay there for the night, ask for the Djarrhaus (see phonenumber below).
Turnul Sfatului (The Council Tower)
by Fam_Stoica
Documentary attested in 1324, Turnul Sfatului (The Council Tower) is a true emblem of the town. It was defending the entrance gate of the 2nd fortified precint. In 1585 it fell heavily down. Johann David, the painter, died under its ruins. Rebuilt in 1586 - 1588, it preserves the actual shape since 1824.
You have to climb some steps to the top for a beautiful view of the old city.
The Evangelical Church
by violeta13
The Church, one of the most remarkable buildings from Sibiu, was built in the 14th century. The tower is measuring 73.34 meters and it is the highest in Transilvania.
Visiting hours: 10 am - 6 pm in summer
11 am - 4 pm in winter
Between June and September, every Wednesday, you can listen a great organ concert.
Piaţa Mica
by iwys
Piaţa Mica, the Small Square, is the second of Sibiu's three town squares. It is flanked by interesting medieval buildings including the Council Tower, the Hermes House, the Museum of Pharmacy, the Franz Binder Museum, the 14th century Arts House and the sixteenth century Goldsmith's Tower. The Liars' Bridge is in one corner of the square. Piaţa Mica seemed to me to be the square that the local townspeople use the most as a functioning meeting place. Sibiu's lively Christmas market is held here.
You can get great views of the square from the Council Tower.
