short visit

by andrea.d

Hi everyone,

i will be in Timisoara for one day only, so what do you suggest to visit in such a short time. Also, my mother wants to go to Iulius mall, how far is that from the city and what is the best way to get there? Sorry to bother you with such a question, but I didn't find any info online.

Thank you!

Andrea

Just walk around Timisoara's downtown/old quarter (the areas around Victoria and Unirii squares), most of the city's tourist sites are located in it. Especially check the Orthodox Cathedral, the Catholic Cathedral and the Banat Museum.

Iulius Mall is located inside the city, not very far from the old quarter mentioned above (about one km away). You can get to it with several bus and trolleybus lines (from downtown trolleybus 14, bus 40 etc.)

I dont know the name of the museum but there is one - if you are interested in history - where you can see the father of Alexander the Great.

Iulius Mall is a very nice mall - the nicest in Romania imho, but shopping could take more hours so ..

For walking outside it depends of the weather. Anyways the central area is to visit - from Unirii Square to Liberty Swuare and to the Cathedral (Timisoara's center is very small)

Don't know and can't advise on other places but for one day the Center and Iulius Mall is ok .. for transportation I recommend taking a taxi - short distances will not pay more than 5-7 eur .. a lot of taxis are outside Iulius Mall

The Old City Hall

by viddra

The Old City Hall was built between 1731 and 1734, according to the plans of the Italian architect Pietro del Bronzo. It was changed many times (in 1782, 1850-rebuilt after the bombings in 1849, and in 1935-renovation).

Fiind a good guide

"Beer Girls"

Every day before sunset, the beer girls would come out to the plaza and feed the pigeons. What this was all about is still a mystery.

"Poeple are friendly but find a good guide"

I went to Romania for work and did not have a good guide even though I was hosted by an american living there.
I spent close to a week in Timisoara and thought until the last two days that this city was extremely ugly.
Little did I know that my host actually liked the ugly parts of town and expected me to like them also.
There are many beautiful areas and places there but unluckily I just drove by them.
