Inside the metropolitan cathedral
by Mique
When i walked in it was in the middle of a service. Though many people just walked in and out. This cathedral is the one where a lot of people were shot in the 1989 revolution. But i could hardly go and look for the bullet holes in the middle of a service. I decided to come back later. And forgot about it.
Timisoara

"An impressive history"
Timisoara is an important city in Romania and one of the largest three of the country. Only about an hour by car from the hungarian border it is a melting point of different cultures which have been living here together peacefully for a long time. Having been part of the Habsburger Austrian-Hungarian empire it has also been an important cultural place, visited by e.g. Liszt and Brahms, as well as other famous artists.
Several christian churches are existing side by side with judaism and other religions here, every one of them having members from different ethnical backgrounds.
Timisoara also is the place where the revolution of 1989 began, to be exact in front of the orthodox cathedral's steps.
"Electrical history"
Interesting is that it is here that for the first time in the history of Europe electric street lighting was installed and used, on 12 november 1884.
"City of parcs - watch the streets, though!"
Timisoara is called the city of parcs and when you drive through it you will understand: it is filled with them.
If you walk around or drive through Timisoara be very careful, as all streets are very damaged. Large holes and uneven sideways might surprise you.
