The lovely Capitol hotel by edvin_br Capitol is one of Bucharests most historical hotels. The 5 level building was raised up in 1901 at the famous Calea Victoriei, at the past it used to be a cafe house and a meeting place for many spiritual persons.
This 3 stars hotel include 70 rooms and 10 suites. In all the rooms you will find mini bar, air condition, tv with cable and other stuff.... at the ground floor there is also a restaurant. Was just there for the one night... this is a pretty famous hotel in Bucharest, and if you tell the taxi drivers the name you won't have to worry about an address. The staff are actually comparatively friendly for Bucharest, which can honestly be worth its weight in gold. The beds are weird - not too bad, but maybe just too old. There was aircon, which is a definite plus in summer when the temperature can get scorching. Last summer (2007) there was a heat wave in which several people died. We were appreciating aircon then, I can tell you. The breakfast is spectacularly basic for such a fancy looking hotel. Don't expect too much.
There is no internet (which is quite normal in Bucharest), but if you come out of the hotel and walk straight forward to the junction, cross the street, turn right and walk down Elisabeta street, a little way down on your left is a basment internet place, which looks very dodgy but is not at all, and has reasonable rates. Incredibly weirdly, you cannot make outgoing international calls (or, I think receive them) for most of the day, but occasionally, they'll let you! Sorry, I can't explain this, i couldn't get a rational explanation out of them. Good stay, excellent location in the centre of the town. Old rooms but not bad. Cheap in comparison to the others nearby.

The Hotel Capitol was built in 1901 and was Bucharest's grandest hotel until it was superseded by the Athenee Palace in 1914. It has 80 rooms on five floors. The rooms have cable TV and a mini bar. There is one restaurant. Rates available from the Capitol's own web site are 85 euros for a single room and 110 euros for a double, including breakfast.
