Accommodations like that aren't really widely available in Bucharest for tourists (most locals that rent rooms rent them to other Romanians who come to study, work etc.) but hopefully someone will still be able to give you some contacts.
You could also consider short-term apartment rental, it starts at about €30 per day.

Heloo Dan

as taseg mention is no comon to rent private room for turist but it can be as I did several time.
thos people like to rent for long time 6-12 month, you came at june so it's an option that you will found some place iven for short period of time because it's almost the end of the student year and people that are puplish room now dont have a big chance to rent it till the bigining of the next study year.

this is a big web that you can found someting but! it's at romanian only:

I dont know well romanian but if you tell me for how long you stay in bucharest I can try to serch for you on this web and tell you how to contact with.

all the best

Hi Dan,

How was your trip to Bucharest? Did you find any decent accommodation; how much did you pay?

I'm planing to be there foe a week in January 2009. So far I am tempted to get a serviced apartment. Prices are from 45 to 75 Euro/day and they look pretty good but not sure how reliable they are. Is anyone familiar with this apartment site: http://www.in-bucharest.com Can anyone recommend them?

Any help is apreciated

Travel Tips for Bucharest

Modern&Old Together

by edvin_br

This is a pretty strange office building that stands behind the Central University library at the University square.
I heard that the old building under it was used by the Romanian secret police at the communist days... scary stuff really....

Romanians Religious People!

by draguza

I did not realize that Romanians were so religious. In fact, when on Bucharest buses, I noticed that every time we were passing by a church, local people were doing "the cross sign", really everyone on the bus, even very young people.

I thought Italy was a religious country, but to my surprise Romania is even more!

Lots of Stores and cheap eating

by PolyAna about The Bucharest Mall

The mall has a lot of chill stores, such as Mango, Morgan de Toi, Christian Dior Cosmetics, and a few department store. Also, there's a supermarket that is relatively cheap and which carries all kinds of local wines and has a delicious pastry and cake shop. Also, on the top level, there's a cheaply priced food court where you can find American food as well as local favorites. There are a couple of shoe stores (that I don't remember tyhe name of) where I bought some stillettos which were comfortable(!!!) and really high quality for about $30. Expect to spend about 30-50 for shoes. 10-100 for tops, pants and dresses. Cosmetics are REALLY cheap, for example I bought a Christian Dior 5eyeshadow pan for 25 bucks, in the US they're 50.

OK! DUBLINERS and THE HARP are fine but you must try:

it's quite expensive if you only drink cocktails (speciality) or want to get drunk but it's really comfortable and waitress are lovely.
GET RELAX fancy but clean, forget trekking shoes!

Gara De Nord

Bucharests centerall railway station... a good place for people who like noise, pollution and irritating taxi drivers... but the station is geting better and better every year, today you can even sit down in a Mcdonalds and eat something... but i dont know who has the appetite to eat after what you see outside.
In my opinion this station need to be destroyed but for now, when it still exists you will have to learn to like it.
Outside there are gourds who dont let the gypsies get in... but it dosnt mean that the station is empty of gypsies. Inside you can see that the tickets are printed now by computers and there are large tv sets on the main hall and i even saw some very cool trash cans... but i also saw some broken walls like it was after a war.
Outside near the platforms you will have a lot of stands and kiosks... has i toold before, even a Mcdonalds and there all other kind of sores too...
Trains are coming and goiung out of here from all over Romania and Europe, for a complete timetable check:
The last thing that you have to remember is to not listen the Taxi drivers outside... they wil try to jump on you and will offer to take you to any place in the city. Ask some of them the price, even bargain and then go with the cheapest.
