Re: luxurious taxi

When I was in Bucharest, I just rented a whole car (a BMW sedan) with a driver who took me all the way to Transylvannia and was also willing to bring me to Bulgaria. I paid about $200-250 a day for the whole service, and I got an experienced driver through my hotel. The hotels have cars for rent (with driver).

But if you are opting for luxury limos like Mercedes, you have to check out "wedding transports" for which they usually use these kinds of cars: http://www.limousine-rent-bucharest.com/?page_id=42 They can also quote the price on-line.

Travel Tips for Bucharest

SNOW!

by Aurorae

Be prepared for piles of snow in winter, and very low temperatures! But don't let that prevent you from going out, exploring the city and enjoying the winter! THe example of this is here - Helen (*hailun*) at the park near Triumph gate. You should see us wrapped up, like snow beasts as our mutual friend Vlada (*enroute*) would say!

Romanian Folk Dances

by draguza

Hora is the name for the large circle dance and is the most widespread dance in Romania, partly because any number of participants of both men and women, of any ability or age, can join in. The term Hora is also used for the Sunday village dance, even where the Hora dance does not form part of the dance cycle

Lipscani Street

by edvin_br

Lipscani is maybe the most historical street that stil exists today in the modern Bucharest. The street, that called after traders who came to the city from Leipzig is located between the Dimbovita river, passes trough Calea Victoriei and Bucharests Historical part and it ends at I.C. Bratianu blvd.
The street is a very crowded place because of its shops, cafes and bars... many historical buildings, including the National Bank can be found at Lipscani.

Gay disco

by USMarineRO about Queens

Like Gay clubs the world over, this place has become tremendously popular with a non-Gay set fed up with the meat market atmosphere at so many of the city’s other locations.

The music is not too varied, and you can tell the DJ's favorites, because you may hear the same song an hour later. Entry costs 20.00 lei, but that includes 10.00 lei worth of drinks at the bar. That equals about one drink, so don't get too excited.

The dance floor is kinda small, as the whole bar is really just one big room. Seating is located on a raised platform around the dance floor and a VIP section located under the stairs (how exclusive - LOL). Only one bar at the end of the dance floor so it can take some time to get a drink. The female bartender never smiled, but at least she always got the drink order right.

A drag show on Saturday night. And it seemed that all of the performers did Madonna songs. Although the performer that did the homage to Ukraine's Eurovision 2007 entry was great fun. A couple of hot go-go boys dance on the speakers and are a show all of their own. No one seemed to even acknowledge them though, and I didn't notice anyone tipping them.

Dance floor gets crowded and poor ventilation will cause us non-smokers to feel sick without frequent trips outside to breathe, If smoke bothers you I suggest you also bring eye drops (my eyes were burning after a few hours of having smoke blown in my face).

Bucharest police were parked out front on the nights I visited, but they just looked bored. No trouble at all. And one smiled at me when I was leaving with a friend. ;) Wear your best, but be prepared to sweat.

Metro system

by 7_seconds

There are 4 metro lines in Bucharest and they are quite frequent. Prices are like this: for 2 rides you pay 2 RON (romanian lei), for 10 rides - 7 lei. It's the best and fastest way to go around the city.
