Accomodation in Bucharest on 23.07 + mountain trekking shop

by bcl

Hi!

Im flying to Bucharest on 23.07 and I'm looking for a cheap accomodation there for 1 or 2 nights, any addresses for a B&B, cheap hotel or a tent camp?

Also, I wonder is there any shop with mountain trekking equipment? I'm going to Fogarashi mountains for a week and planned to buy there some additional equipment, also some dry food (so called liophiligants if im okay in english translation).

regards
Zee

Regarding the mountain trekking equipment, I'd recommend:
Mountain Experts: 8 Academiei Str (as you go out from Universitate Metro Subway Station at the Muzeul Sutu exit, walk down Elisabeta Bvd, pass Banca Comerciala Romana, second street at Right, across the street from a Spring Time fast-food)

Salomon: 10 Blanari Str - close to Universitate as well, as you walk towards Piata Unirii, on a street on the right.

For the B&B:

Butterfly Villa: http://www.villabutterfly.com/index.html
The Funky Chicken Guest House: http://www.funkychickenhostel.com/

Hope this helps

Do you think I may get in these trekking shops some Dehydrated/freeze-dried camping food?

Travel Tips for Bucharest

Historical Quarter

by DPando

Few paces NW from Piata Unirii there is the "Historical quarter" actually there is a dirty and collapsed neighbourhood with (there is a good point) a good place to make some shots, maybe the best in a wholle collapsed city
It was mid afternoon and the sun was setting it was a pale light in the sky and quite coldish and windy ..it was first days of october
Our fast sight to Bucharest had to expire because we had to come back to Gara du Nord where Eddie's train left ... so we took a fast stroll looking at the buildings and streets around theis quarter and some areas ahead and back through Piata Universitati and Regina Elisabeta, Bratianu boulevard coming back to the metro station

Dambovita River

by josephescu

The river crossing Bucharest is quite small, as per the standards of other European capitals. However, Dambovita was changed its path and debit during the construction works in ‘80s, so that now the river passes below the park & fountains in Unirii square, between 2 subway lines and above an underground road tunnel.

watch bears and wolves, and go off road 4x4 style!

if you are the adventurous type, check out a company called roving romania. its run by an englishman called colin who acts as your guide, translator and driver (if you choose 4x4). he can offer photo safaris, find you some of the country's elusive wildlife and take you on walking tours thru the mountains or you can rattle your way to the most inaccessible but most cultural villages in romania in his land rover. but book ahead! hes very popular.

Victoria Store

by edvin_br about Galeriile Victoria

The Victoria store is a fashionable department store, similiar to those in western europe. It is located in a beautiful refurbished building at Calea Victoriei, in the heart of the classical Bucharest. The store is divided by floors. Every floor consists an other kind of merchandise. The most importent sectors are the clothes and fashion of course... About the same as in other shopping centers and high level stores in Bucharest.

Bucharest Transportation

by babettu

Bucharest subway Metro is a quite efficient means of transportation. One can easily get around by using a Metro map which can be supplied from any Metro station. Prices are quite cheap for tourists, one ten trip ticket can cost you only 60,000 Lei avoid travelling during the rush hours that is from 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm.
