There will be at least two large street parties (in Constitutiei square and Revolutiei square) with concerts, light shows, fireworks etc.

thanks for the answer. Any other info about that day . What you suggest for that day?

Most museums are closed that day, but you could check the sites near the city's center (take a walk through the old quarter then go see the Palace of Parliament, it's quite impressive even from the outside) or just spend some time in one of the dozens of clubs, bars, restaurants etc. in that area. If you prefer something quieter go see the large parks around the lakes in the northern part of Bucharest.

Some other advices would be not to go shopping (all shops/malls/supermarkets will be absolutely packed with people) and to avoid using surface transport (taxis, buses, trams) as traffic will be very congested (take the subway).

There will be plenty of it, clubs are usually full on New Year's night (so full that you actually need reservations to get into some of them).

Travel Tips for Bucharest

Bucharest Tip

by tabatha

I miss here in Germany the friendly people. Perhaps is it really like this: when everybody has the same problem you care more about the others. So it is in Romania, you´re sitting in the same boot, and everyone will help you.

Free Press House (Casa Presei Libere)

by Fam_Stoica

This huge building houses many publishing houses. Formerly known as Casa Scanteii, it was designed by the Romanian architect Horia Maicu and completed in 1956, one year after the strikingly similar Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw, Poland.

Mall passage

by DPando

Crossing streets and closer to the old church upload in other tip we found a narrow alley, we went in and we found some terraces....but so different to any other places.... it was an "L" with some small pubs ..the best was the ceiling like green stained glass

The largest mall in Romania

Plaza Romania is the largest (104,000 sqm) mall in Romania and the 2nd in Bucharest. The offer is exhaustive : shops, restaurants, cafes, a supermarket, a Movieplex, other entertainment areas, banks & ATMs. Clothes and accessories (Bigotti, Cavaliere, Diesel, Etam, Celio, Kenvelo, Mango, Morgan de toi, Stefanel, Steilmann, Zara), shoes (Leonardo, Otter, Geox), sport items (Adidas, Lotto, Nike), jewellery (Cellini, B&B Collection), electronics (Media Galaxy), mobile phones (Germanos, Connex, Zapp, Telrom Mobile), gifts (Sarra Blu, Gift Shop, Dolce Vita, Vices & More, Bruno), perfumes & cosmetics (Yves Rocher, Beauty Shop, Keyra, The Body Shop) etc. $ 50 - 300

Crazy driving

by supune

I was told that Bucharesters are notoriously bad drivers. But I think that is a false accusation. I think you have to be an expert driver to survive on these streets. In my younger days, I would have said that driving here would be fun. It is heart stopping at times. You have to have good reactions and good instincts to drive fast here. Sometimes there are no rules...at least no rules being followed.

Sometimes cars will zoom in front of you and suddenly stop or bust a U-turn. I have to say the driving is not as dangerous as in downtown Colombo, but Americans will definitely, have to get used to the lack of rules. I'm sure most big cities in countries like Romania are just like this.

Here is a quote from Romanian_Bat -- "Bucharesters are proud of being Romania's worst drivers and also of almost never giving a ride..."
