Pensiunea Sanda: Get Your Train Tickets First!

During the summer, CFF Viseu de Sus sells out of train tickets early in the morning. This is especially true when the weather is good. For that reason, you're best off staying the previous night in town, and heading to the train station bright and early. This is a lot more manageable when you stay at a pension right outside the doors to the train station! Pensiunea Sanda is probably the closest pension to the actual station- we passed it on our way to the LP-recommended Pensiunea Stancuta (like something out of the Twilight Zone, it seemed every pension we passed was called Pensiunea Dancuta, Pensiune Stancutileie, Pensiune Mancuta... you get the idea). Finally, we doubled back to Pensiunea Sanda as we found its location very appealing. They had a triple room available, for which we were charged eighty lei. Right away I stepped into the bathroom for a steaming hot shower, and later I enjoyed the quiet, comfortable bed. The family who ran Pensiune Sanda mostly kept to themselves and didn't seem interested in talking to us, so if you're looking for a family or homestay experience this isn't the best pension. If you just want to be close to the train station so you can be guaranteed a ticket, stay here.

I should note that there are LOTS of other pensions within a block or two of Pensiunea Sanda, and you can often negotiate the best price just by showing up. I wouldn't advise making a reseravation (even in the high season).
