Travelling with dog in Moscow

by lonnbehh

Hello,
I will be travelling to Moscow next month and I have my dog with me. Is it ok to walk around the city with a dog or is there something I should take into consideration? Also, does anyone happen to know if it's allowed to take a dog into a restaurant there?
Thanks a lot for your help! :)

Every country has strict rules with regards to taking animals in to the country. If you were travelling from the U.S. you would need to quarantine the dog for 21 days first and have all necessary vaccinations as well. Suggest that you contact the Russian Embassy in finland for further information.

Russia also may require additional quarantine for 30 days upon arrival there.

i wonder whether the dog is little terrier or wolfhound? :-)
well, it seems it is ok to walk around with dog here but not sure every restaurant allows to come in with animals...

Wow, thats a long quarantine! I'll be travelling from Finland so maybe they have some different restrictions for us. Haha! ;)
I'll try to contact the Russian embassy here.
Do you happen to know if I can get on a train with the dog? We're going to travel to Ukraine from Moscow.
Thanks a lot for your help! :)

as far as i know (from my mates tales) the BIG dog should travel in the special box in the special carriage in the train... :-)

99% of restorants don't permit the dogs inside. According the Rules of passenger and cargo transportation, you can take the big dog in the train except the high class wagons, but you must take the separate compartment (4 tickets) + pay special tax. Dog must have veterinary sertificate and be in muzzle.

PS In march it can be snow with special chemical reagent in the streets, which our road services use for unfreezing ice on roads. It can be unsafe for foots of dog. It will be better to use special protective cream or footwear for dogs.

Thanks Sunny Cat! :) You think his Petpassort with all the vaccinations, microchip numbers etc will work as a vet certificate?

Travel Tips for Moscow

MOSCOW : INTERNET CABINS

by swesn

Internet cabins appear to be a little bit more difficult to find because Moscow is SO HUGE!

Go to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Mall. There is one very big internet provider located at the basement next to the food court. Turn right when you reach the bottom of the escalator.

It is open 24 hours, I believe. If you go early, like before 9am and stay late, like after 9pm (I cannot really recall the exact time), the price per hour is MUCH CHEAPER.

The mall may be closed at those hours. There are some guards standing at the entrance. Just do the 'keyboard-typing' motion and mouth 'INTERNET' and they let you in.

Another internet cabin is found along Novy Arbat ul. Walk towards west, after a huge shopping mall on the left side of Novy Arbat ul, watch out for the INTERNET sign. But this is a little bit more expensive than the one at Okhotny Ryad Mall.

Train stations in Moscow

by HORSCHECK

Moscow has 8 main train stations, which are all connected to the metro. Most of them are located on the circle metro line (brown line).

Only near the metro station "Komsomolskaya" you find three trains stations: Yaroslavskiy Vokzal for trains to Siberia, Leningradskiy Vokzal for trains to St. Petersburg and Kazanskiy Station for trains to Central Asia.

The other train stations are Belorusskiy, Rizhskiy, Kievskiy, Kurskiy and Paveletskiy Vokzal.

Most of the train stations are well worth a visit both from the outside and the inside.

My favourite train station in Moscow is Kazanskiy Vokzal. For more information about this station, please have a look at my "Of the beaten Path" tips".

Ivan The Great Bell Tower

by bugulma

The Bell tower complex began to build in 1505-1508. 100 years later the highest building of the complex was built and it is 81 meters high. Church near of the Bell Tower was built in 30-s of XVI centuries. Bell Tower is used nowadays for the different expositions (for example, there was orders exhibition when I was there last time). In 1812 Napoleon soldiers blew the complex but fortunately the main bell wasn't damaged at all. In 1814-1815 the complex was reconstructed with bells of XVI-XVII centuries.

Everyone's getting married... or so it seems

by call_me_rhia

Everyone's getting married in Moscow... or so it seems. obviously this is not the truth - but it'll seem so if you visit tourist attractions and sites. Why?

Well, it seems customary for people who get married to tour all tourist sites and have their wedding pictures taken there. And what's a wedding picture without a drink and a toast?

recently married people - it appears - have a blast on their wedding day - traveling in huge limousines from one place to the other - having champagne at each place... you really wish the day would never end.

No Benches

by tini58de

It was quite new to me, that in the Russian Orthodox Church there are no benches! The congregation is standing during the whole service! Just a very few seats are reserved for the elderly who are physically not capable of doing this.
