Transportation

by Cool-123

Hello,

Is it alright to take the Aeroexpress train from Savyolovsky vokzal to the air port Sheremetyevo? Is it easy to find the entrance to get to Sheremetyevo 2 for international flight? Or I should take the taxi directly to the airport? Thanks in advance.

Edith

Re: Transportation

hi,
being many times in Moscow, i have never used public transportation to get to the airport.. despite it is faster then to go by a taxi in pick hours in Moscow!
usually my all flights from Moscow-Domodedovo are in the morning about at 10.30 am so i get up at 6.30 am and wait a taxi at 7.00 am which i booked a day before travel. i get to the airport within 1.5 hours, means by 9.00 am.
i usually stay in Moscow at my friend's place, in the North - Metro Aleksevskaya. Domodedovo airport is on the South-East.
traffic jam in the morning is only on the exit from Moscow (MKAD), further on a taxi can drive above 100.
metro is also suitable transport but if u have luggage and ur flight in pick hours, rush, metro crowded with people etc... so better to take a taxi!
taxi is not expensive. i get taxi from 1000 to 1200 rubles per ride depends on class of the car (lux, medium, normal... smtng like that!), my one is normal or the cheapest!
there is one useful tel number fr u!

P.S. call them a day before to book a taxi!

train has a stop just in front of SVO2. for now it is the most reliable option to get the airport and to avoid heavy traffic to it. Although I never used it by myself (cause the SVO is the oldest one in Moscow and I prefer others) I strongly recommend you to use the train that to be in the airport in time you need.
here is the timetable and other info of the express: http://old.svo.aero/?act=part&pid=549

It depends from time! Sometimes when it's no traffic jams it's faster and much more comfortable to take taxi.

Taxi cost from 1000 rub and more

Aeroexpress is no traffic jams but it doesnt work 24 hours and u need to find time which will be more comfortable for u! Express cose around 300-500 rub. It is cheper, no traffic jams at all.

If you aren't sure, it's better to take taxi. However, the Aeroexpress seems totally fine - new, secure and fast.

I've never been to Aeroexpress, but I've travelled quite a lot at Domodedovo express train - and it was a great experience. No jams, quite cheap - and for some flights, you can even check in your luggage right before you get on the train!

Museums of the Moscow Kremlin

by xenia

The Moscow Kremlin is the heart of the Russia capital: major thoroughfares of the city either converge on the Kremlin, or form series of concentric circles around it. The Kremlin Great Palace and Palace of Congresses are the meeting places of sessions of the congresses of people's deputies of the Russia.

12 Have a safe trip! What people say about crime in Russia is a lie. I have never felt so safe in any city before. Crime only affects people who are with the mafia, deal in drugs etc. People are friendly.

A Modern Russian Parable

by MrBill

One day a woman was visiting her husband that lived and worked very hard in Moscow. They were sitted at one of the best tables at Cafe Pushkin where they enjoyed a view of everything that was going on.

They spotted an old friend across the restaurant, and she said,
"Isn't that Jack Spalding?"
"Yes, it is", answered her husband.
"And, who is that pretty young girl he is with?", she queried.
"Oh, that's his mistress", the husband said sheepishly.
"My Lord", she cried, "that is terrible. How can he do such a thing at his age?"

Just then their meal came and they tucked into some delicious goose liver pate' washed down with some lightly chilled dry white wine. As they were eating, along came another pretty, young lady and stopped to talk to the husband. He seemed to know her very well, and they chatted amicably for some minutes.

After the young girl left, the wife asked,
"And, who was that then?"
"Oh, that is my mistress", he answered. "
"What? I want a divorce", she cried.
"Okay, but you realize all our wealth is tied-up in this joint venture in Russia, and that I am leveraged up to my eyeballs. You will have to go back to work. And, you will have to give up the Club and the expensive shops. Plus, the weekend home and the Mercedes, too" he intoned?

She fell silent and thought about this for a while, until the next course came, which was a beautiful shashlik of wild game and vegetables, which went perfectly with the bottle of French red wine.

Then she said, "Our mistress is prettier than Jack's isn't she?"

Elokhovskaya Orthodox Church - 10 -

by MrBill

Here you can see the mothers and godmothers with the babies infront of the metal fence, with visitors and family behind. This is good for crowd control. Everyone had to stand for the entire time, so it did get quite tiriing towards the end. It would have been nice to sit on one of the benches in the viewing area. I suppose this allows visitors to view the chapel when the priest is not there by shutting off the viewing area from the altar area, too.
