Visa Support Documents for Night on Train

by kbv2

Hi - I am staying in St. Petersburg for 3 nights, one night on the overnight train to Moscow and then three nights in Moscow. Both the St. Petersburg and Moscow hotels told me that they would provide letters of sponsorship for only the duration of my stay at each hotel. Will I need a third visa support document for the night that I am on the train?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi !

I'm sure you do not need any document to confirme your's voyage in train between the citys. Anyway you can't have it because you can't by the ticket for russian train on-line.

Good luck !

hej,
do not worry because u do not need these papers at all!
only in the case when police stops u in the streets late night or while checking in the mid day.
on ur departure they (passport control) don't ask for registration at all (recently, from 2008), the only docs they ask are ur passport n paper with entry stamp when u arrived!
cheers,

Travel Tips for Moscow

Three Days In Moscow

by maxovna

Imagine that you have only three days in Moscow! I have a special sightseeing programme for you! On the FIRST DAY I recommend that you begin your tour of Moscow in the morning with a visit to RED SQUARE, the heart of Moscow, and a look around the KREMLIN'S historic monuments and museums. In the afternoon I recommend a walk along TVERSKAYA STREET, the main street of our capital. On the SECOND DAY you can make a stroll along MOKHOVAYA STREET and VOLKHONKA STREET and make a sightseeing tour of the centre of the city. Before lunch visit the STATE TRETIAKOV GALLERY or the STATE PUSHKIN MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS. In the afternoon you can get acquanted with LENINSKY PROSPECT. On the THIRD DAY in the morning I suggest you walk along NOVY ARBAT STREET and KUTUZOV AVENUE or get acquanted with PEACE AVENUE and the ALL-UNION EXHIBITION CENTRE. In the afternoon you may wish to go for a stroll on the VOROBIOV HILLS. If you have an extra day to spare, I suggest a tour of the metro , a boat trip on the MOSKVA RIVER or exploring masterpieces of Russian culture. Bear in mind, that distances in Moscow are great, and it is impossible to see everything in a day. Anyway, after excursions about Moscow you will be absolutely exhausted, but full of impressions. If you visit at least some of the places I mentioned, you'll get an idea of Russian culture, architecture, traditions and customs. Those who visited Moscow before the perestroyka will be greatly surprised by the changes in our capital and the achievements of post-perestroyka period.

Tverskoy boulevard

by PolinaS

The boulevard is the oldest and the longest (~857m) one of the Ring. There is an oak opposite the building No14, which had been planted here before the boulevard was constructed. So its age is more than 200 years, amazing that the tree was a witness of many historical events.

In Moscow you can use the underground for your moving, so you can move speedly and you can see the inside of the metro stations. They are very nice and are all different from each others; they are like monument, they are very big. Only a tip: if you like to use the underground is better if you'll buy a ticket carnet becouse is more cheaper (50-60%) then one way ticket.

Presents

by gussymons

Don't forget to always take a small gift to someone who is inviting you to their apartment. A bottle of vodka or some flowers usually suffices.

One thing which I picked up from a Canadian guy, Malin, is to hand out little Union Jack pin badges to people who help you out or give you a lift or something. He did it with Canadian flags and though it sounds cheesy it is a thoughful gesture.

CURRENCY

by kiwigal_1

The money used in Moscow and throughout Russia is the Rouble. This currency underwent a devaluation in 1998 and is currently stable. Roubles can be bought inside Russia in exchange for either US Dollars or Deutch Marks. It was also possible to exchange them at Sukhbaatar in Mongolia on my way through to Moscow on the Trans Siberian Railway.

In Moscow it is possible to get cash advances on your credit card at several bank ATM's.

To find out how much the Rouble is worth take a look at this currency converter
