Hotel Cosmos is situated on Prospect Mira; It was built for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow to hold the competitors and was opened 18th July 1979.
It was built by a team of French and Russian architects led by French building firm Sefri co.
The hotel is the biggest I have ever stayed in with a dozen shops, ten restaurants, a large bar, swimming pool, fitness centre and concert hall.
It also has a currency exchange, pharmacy and hairdressers.
The statute standing tall outside the main entrance to the hotel is former French prime minister Charles de Gaulle.
Opposite this vast hotel is the space explorers monument which depicts a spacecraft flying through the air.
The hotel is next to the V.V.C. All Russia exhibition centre which stands on 2,375,000 square metres, 266,000 square metres are used for indoor exhibits.
The rooms are basic but comfortable.
1,718 Standard Twin bedrooms
53 two-room Suites
6 four-room Suites
catering outlets for about 3,600 seats
Unique Quality: The rooms are basic but comfortable. Due to the planning of the hotel most of the views from the windows are amazing with the Space monument and the VVC, with its magnificent statues, just across the busy road.
There is also a supermarket and a few food stalls just outside the hotel.
I was there fo about a week, as First I have to say that it has a great breakfast buffet and also good meals for dining. Additionally You can spend the whole time in the Hotel as there is much enough to see in and around it.
As I was in a group, I ended up staying for nearly a week at the Kosmos Hotel. The first impact, after some hours of traveling by train from St.Petersburg was quite a shock, as the hall seemed something like a casinò instead of a normal hotel.
In my previous trips to Moscow I stayed at the Radissons near the Kievskaja station in 2001, and at the President Hotel in 2007. Obviously they are in different categories, and since 2001 most hotels seemed to have improved in quality.
But the Kosmos, even if quite easy to reach and near the metro, has, in my opinion, the problem of being "too big". Several times it happened that we needed to have breakfast in a different restaurant because the normal one was full of people. Most food was the same at breakfast and dinner, the hall seemed a busy railway station at all times, and it was impossible to find a even a map of the town or the metro.
Also, the usage of Internet PCs did cost twice the price of the Moskva hotel in St.Petersburg.
This is a huge hotel with excellent amenities. There are shops, bars and restaurants all within its complex.
The rooms were not huge, but a least they did have hot water in the summer. I stayed in room 1057, small twin bed room. The beds weren't all that comfy but I was only staying for one night. Neat and clean rooms, if a little dated.
Excellent all you can eat buffet breakfast. Cereals, fruit, bread, cheese. Hot bacon and eggs etc.
Unique Quality: As the night went on and the bars and clubs in the hotel got into full swing, watch out for the ladies of the night. They were all over the lobby!
Directions: Across the road from the metro VDNKh on the orange 6 line.
The hotel was really huge but I liked it. A lot of the participating countries at the Ice hockey World championships stayed at the hotel. The service was good and maybe the standard was not that great but I think we got what we paid for.
2 nights, mid October 2007. Twin room. Decent accommodation close to Metro station. Beer was £3 (GBP) in the hotel bar which was expensive but we were there for a football match so hotel increased prices.
Directions: Nothing in the area but close to Metro (50 yards away)
Thats really a very good hotel, a big one with lots of accomodations and restaurants inside of it. We satyed in Renovated Room there was a tv, big comfy bad, small fridge, lots of lights, good bathroom with lots of different towels. Room was cleaned every day!
Thats a very big hotel with lots of guests. Very good security.
The most amazing thing for me was a breakfast with lots of different and very tasty food. Really that were amazing dinners and my belly all the time was extremely happy and didn't want to leave the breakfast. U can buy souvenirs in a hotel. the prices on them are not the much higher.
A very good restaurant in the hotel is that is situated on the left from the reception. Sorry i just can't remember its name. very tasty salads and drinks.
We also were in a bar that is situated on the right from the reception. I found tasty only pelmeni with mashrooms but nothing else was tasty. And prices were high and in the end they put 10% from the order for tips in the bill.
But in general i have REALLY VERY VERY VERY good impressions from staying in this the hotel.
Directions: VDNH subway stop

As I left the Cosmonauts museum towards the Cosmos Hotel, I saw a huge bronze monument rising up in front of the concave towewr with white starbursts-- I knew I would soon see Yuri gagarin, the first man in space in bigger than life bronze ...
But what-- no -- It is french President Charles de Gaulle!
Unique Quality: Large casino and night club.
Directions: Metro VDNH
Convenient Location. Relatively affordable (compared to most hotels in Moscow, which as everybody knows, are really expensive). Cosmos is right by a metro station, which makes it really convenient getting around the city.
