Moscow

by Brazil2000

Hi - I'm making the same journey as somebody else asked about a while ago so here's the list of questions:

2. This may sound daft, but does it terminte at Paveletsky Station? I woulf hate to be on the train and miss the stop because of my poor Russian. I'm hoping the train just has 2 stops: the airport and station mentioned.

3 How busy will the train be at around 6.30pm?

4. We won't have massive suitcases, but we will have one small rucksack and a large-ish bag. Will we be allowed on the train?

5. At Paveletsky, we will need a taxi to take us to the Peter I Hotel on Neglinnaya Street. How much should this cost, and is it worth reserving a taxi before hand?

6. How long will this taxi journey take or can I take the metro as it looks like a short distance.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Nigel

If you are speaking about the express train, then it will stop at Paveletskaya. Express will not be very busy, but metro will be. But if your flight lands at 6.30 p.m. then I think you won't be in Moscow (Paveletskaya) earlier then 9.30 p.m. At that time metro will be OK too. You will be allowed with any bags or suitcases, but in metro maybe they'll make you pay for luggage (It depends on the person on duty :))
Frankly speaking I don't think that it will be great difference between prices for taxi if you take it at the airport or at the railway station (at least official one). You do not need to book it in advance. It doesn't matter wether you have to go for a long or short trip. Taxies from and to the airports and railway stations are expensive. especially for foreign tourists.
You can take a metro. The entrance is just in the building of the reilway station. Look for red M sign. Here is Moscow metro scheme (unfortunately in Russian. http://maps.yandex.ru/metro.xml?mapID=2000 This will be Paveletskaya of "radial" (dark green )line. You'll have to make a change to the circle line (brown) without getting on any train. Take a train to Taganskaya (1 stop). Then make a chage to Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line (violet) and go to Kuznetsky most (2 stops)(towards the center). Here you are.

Ola Nigel
I was admired by Rio and Brazil some year ago.
Try to help you.
Don’t forget to change some money (Min 20 USD) or to take cash in ATM in airport!
You’ll need 150 rub for rapid train + 17 rub to Metro (buy Metro pass card for more trip, it’ll be cheaper) for person.
This is rapid train timetable from Domodedovo airport to Paveletskaya

I advise to take one metro line (green) without transfer from Paveletskaya to Teatralnaya. It’ll be a bit far (10 min by walk) than from Kuznetskiy Most. Ask Ararat Park Hyat Hotel after exit from Teatralnaya metro station. This hotel is at the beginning of your hotel street.

Travel Tips for Moscow

Walking along Novy Arbat and...

by DRStorey

Walking along Novy Arbat and Old Arbat. Great restaurants, bars, shopping and sightseeing. Just a few blocks from Red Square, The Whitehouse, Zoo and the river with its great river cruises (in summer). The continual excitement. Never a dull moment. History at every turn you make. A city of contrasts.

Kremlin Gates

by xenia

It was long time ago. One negotiant went to famous doctor with heavy headache. Doctor examined him and after pondering asked: "Where are your trade? In Kremlin? And what gates do you pass through, Borovitskie or Spasskie? So, clear, you should drive through other gate." Negotiant took that advice and headache stopped!
It's very simple (when you know). It was heavy frost in Moscow. And very respectful icon was established over one of gates. Negotiant was very pios and took away fur-cap passing through gates and crossed himself. Head became too cool...

Metro Station " Square of Revolution "

Station " Square of Revolution ". In niches of the hall 76 sculptural groups are installed. The black Armenian marble "davalu" is successfully combined with red, light-golden, white and grey marble of other breeds.

Georgian Food Part II

by dlandt

The dishes you see right here were also very good. The chicken is called Chicken Tabaka, which is fried in spices, using a heavy weight to press down on it. The meat emerges crispy and tasty. In the rear you see a dish of pork shashlik, a local favorite which many Russians also eat as their own food. This is nice and juicy, with larger chunks of meat than the kebabs most of us know, and much more hearty and filling. To the left is a dish of veal simmered in tomatoes and spices, I think with a touch of wine. Tender and tangy, this dish really hit the spot.

Moscow City Map

by HORSCHECK

I found it difficuIt to get a free detailed map of Moscow as the city doesn't have a Tourist Information Office. Most large hotels offer free maps, but these usually only concentrate on the very city centre.

Be prepared to feel completely lost without a proper map. So I recommend you to buy a detailed map in one of the large book shops or small kiosks of Moscow.

I bought the "Moscow today - City Map" which has street names in both Russian and English. Besides a big Moscow map it also includes a detailed city centre map, a street index and a metro map.

I bought the map at "Moskva Knigi" in the street ul. Tverskaya 8. The price was 47 Rubles (1,30 Euro, 2005).
