Metro station "Mayakovskaya"
by kris-t
The design of an underground hall of station "Mayakovskaya" (1938) is unique. The model of the station was exhibited at the international exhibition in New York in 1938 and was awarded with "Grand prix".
Is Moscow safe?
by Muscovite
Have you heard any reports of any cars burnt as they like to do in Paris, or any shops looted, as became the favourite pass-time in Athens? Does anyone set the faces of fellow metro passengers on fire as, reported by a British paper, London youths did just the other day?
Have any foreign travellers been blocked in an airport by any democratic revolution here, as they were in Thailand? Or was any family on holidays with a valid voucher left outside a hotel unless they pay extra, as it is more than often the case with our people in Turkey and Egypt?
Has any woman here lost her purse, if not life, to a motorcycled singer of Naples folk songs?
Do our taxi drivers smash your suitcase into the trunk and drop you out where it suits them, as the habit is in Nice?
Last but not least – do Russian consulates summon you to get your fingerprints, as if you were a proven and convicted criminal, before they consider you for an entry visa?
If all that is safety – no, there’s no such thing in Moscow.
Medical Supplies
by ratherton
Compared to my first visit to Moscow, it is now a lot easier to get standard supplies (deodorant, toothpaste etc) and they are also a lot cheaper than in Western Europe. It is probably best to bring your own though
