Moscow's churches
One of my favorite things about Moscow is the little centuries-old churches tucked in among the modern buildings. Many churches were destroyed by the Bolsheviks, but many still remain. This one is near Metro station Park Kul'tury.

Are there English speaking tour guides available once I get to the Kremlin?
http://www.kreml.ru/main_en.asp
There are english speaking guides, but I/m afraid you are to book such an excursion in advance.
There are 2 main things to know about the Kremlin:
1)There is the ordinary ticket that gets you to the area INside the Kremlinwalls + INside several churches,+ the palace of the Patriarch
That ticket is quite easy to obtain, you simply have to queue up a bit maybe.
2)The Kremlin Treasury: that is restricted and you get tickets only for a certain time+date and have to book a long time in advance
OR you find a guide who takes you there - some of them have their "other possibilities" than to queue up and to hope for one of the rare tickets to the treasury, BUT of course these guides are very expensive !
---
NO handbags, camerabags, rucksacks etc. INside the Kremlinarea ! You can store them only in an unguarded room and can hope its still there when you come back !
So you better leave that in your hotel !
If you order an excursion, you do not have to buy entrance tickets, they are included. Besides, if you come after 4 p.m (or may be 4.30) the entrance is free of charge.
does that free entrance after 04.00pm include the free entrance to the churches as well and how late will they close the whole area for tourists ?
Yes, it covers, but... The closing time is 5 p.m. :)
thanks a lot, I might do it next time !

‘And strangers hanging out in my pet-shop’ – google for the literary translation of that song, it’s much less politically correct. The Moscow bard who was born into Arbat comes out in bronze from one of the lanes.
I was still at school when this lovely street became a showcase of bling. Much later I attended a course of Russian architecture, where a fairly young but overwhelmingly successful Ossetian architect, the mastermind of Arbat’s revamp, cursed his bad luck and swore by his diploma he never meant the place to look this way. He did not order those plain street-lamps, or the acid façade paints, and he certainly did not envisage any wheeling-and-dealing ‘en plein air’. Looks like this whole business affected his health, as he died soon, just 49 years of age. He was not the worst of their lot.
2 Ignore those taxi drivers when you get to arrivals. One took hold of my arm and demanded that I go with him to his taxi. Two then followed me over 100 metres and kept saying Where are you going? Very Annoying - especially after 5 hour plane trip and passport control! It costs over $100 for a ride to town by taxi (by a 20 year old Lada probably). Just act confident and say NO. Best option is to get a mini bus at the exit to outer most metro station and use the metro to get to your destination. This costs less than $3.
3 Dont drive there. Drivers are absolutely crazy. From the moment you leave the airport you will know what I mean. I saw four crashes in the space of my first fifteen minutes there. People don't indicate and just cut each other off all the time driving at reckless speeds. Be careful even crossing roads. They don't even stop at Zebra crossings or when the light is green for predestrians.
Not only in families, men give flowers and chocolates or other presents to their wifes and mothers but also if you work in Moscow it's like this:
You may get flowers from your boss but also the girls themselves give each other a little present. I was surprised by this and a bit sad that I didn't know and could not reciprocate. So, now you know!
One thing you can fell in love with is a special Orthodox Church music. I personally sang in a choir specialised in this kind of music, and I have some friends who still do. Visiting a church in any Russian city, especially Moscow with its so many churches, try not only look at the beauty of interior, but also listen to music that can be heard during the service.
