kremlin/red square guids

by dragginmom

How does one go about finding and booking a reliable english speaking tour guide? Can this be done from the US, or does it need to be done in Moscow?

Re: kremlin/red square guids

You mean Kremlin guides or you need some Moscow city excursion?

I have one coworker who is working as private guide on weekends, if you want I can ask her e-mail and you can write her.

it certainly makes sense to organize that before you go to Russia ! Once that you are there you might easily get to the wrong person, I would never rely on a hotel-receptionist in such a matter ! Read some Moscow-pages and read about experiences that other VT-members had with local guides in Moscow and then decide who to contact.
Some can organize a driver as well and some are able to get you into the Kremlin&Treasury the easy way, without need to get one of the rare tickets.

This company organizes very interesting excursions (interesting even for Moscovites), and they have english speaking guides. I asked them, they answered that you can book from the USA, but you have to pay in advance, and unfortunately only here, in Moscow. You can write to them directly, may be 1-2 days in advance (payment) is possible: fantasyway@yandex.ru

Re: kremlin/red square guids

Hello!

I do have a friend in Moscow and have visited him for 1,5 week. I would have a similar question as raised in this topic to find someone I can join to make tour in Moskow. I think it would be more fun discovering the city with someone. In the afternoon my friend would probably join us :-) Till the time hje is working.

Today we are going to visit StPbourg and then be back on Monaday before noon, i.e. from that time I would kindly join someone here in MOskow! :-)

Thank you for your help!

Agi

P.S. my prfile here is quite new, i.e. I am Hungarian and 28.

Hello!

I saw that you are willing to help someone organizing a tour here in Moskow. Unfortunatelly I am not a native English speaker, but if the mentioned guide would fall to the week starts with March 29 I would join your tour if possible :-)

As you could see from my post to the others I am 28 from Hungary.

Thank you!

Agi

This can be done either from the US or Locally. I would recommend doing it from the US, this way you get a worry free vacation. Some also arrange a pickup from the airport to a hotel, then sightseeing for a couple of days including meals etc. and back to the airport.
Some to tour operators in the US to Russia:

Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Moscow

The People

by bluedook

I do not know what i was expecting when visiting Russia but due to my age and watching too many old films I was expecting dull grey people wanting to buy my old jeans.
Much to my surprise the peolpe were colourful friendly and the women were the most stunning I have seen. One noticeable fast is the almost complete lack of obesity in Moscow.

Hram Hrista Spasitelja One...

by mulivieri

Hram Hrista Spasitelja One church that I visit and that I'd like very much is the Church Of The Saver (I don't know if the english traslation is correct). It's very big and all you see inside is beautiful. In the ground floor there's the church, instead underground you'll find a place like a museum where you'll find the photografic history of the church: This church is very young becouse is only from the 1997 that exists. Now I try to explain you: the church was made from the 1837 to 1883, but after in 1931 it was been destroyed for building a Soviet Palace that never been build. Instead of the Soviet Palace were buided a swimming-pool (the biggest hot-water swimming-pool of the world). In 1997 the church was rebuild like was in the origin for the Moscow 850° anniversary.

Red Square: the architecture...

Red Square: the architecture is astounding and the people-watching is the tops. Red Square is a huge stretch of cobblestoned pavement with most of Moscow's must-see activities within easy walking distance.

Flat door

by xaver

Many old flat have a system to open the door totally original.
You do not have the key to open the ground floor.
You find a keyboard with ten numbers from 0 to 9 and you have o push the code in order to open the door.
I have been told that the 3 numbers of the code must be pushed at the same time, so i got worried about my skills in the night afte some drinks, fortunatly after some attempts I found out that you just have to push the 3 numbers quikly, not at the same time.

TRY RUSSIAN BEER

by Lalique

According to various marketing reviews if Russia sustains the current beer consumption or increases it slightly, in 3-4 years time it'll hit the 1st place in the World Beer Consumption chart :)) Now there is a lot of beer brands in Russia. The most widely spread one is (www.baltika.ru) BALTIKA (brewery), which has now 11 beer types - #0 (non-alcoholic), #1 (lager), #3 (classic), #4 (original), #5 (parnasuss), #6 (porter), #7 (export), #8 (white/wheat), #9 (strong) and 2 types of Honey beer. Other brands have more or less the same scope of beer types with slight variations, other brands are: (www.bochkarev.ru/eng/) BOCHKAREV, (http://klinskoe.beer.yandex.ru/) KLINSKOE, (www.bochka.ru/default1.asp) ZOLOTAYA BOCHKA (golden barrel), (www.sokol-ice.ru) SOKOL (falcon), (www.taranov.ru/beer/three_bers.html) TRI MEDVEDYA (three bears), PIT, Dr. Diesel, (www.ochakovo-beer.com) OCHAKOVO, (www.nevskoye.ru) NEVSKOE, (www.tinkoff.ru) TINKOFF (beer and restaurant) and a lot of others, can't remember them all.
