To busy, 10 Miljion poeple living in a dirty rat race, Cremlin most fantastic buildings in the world. City is moving fast to catch up with the rest of the world. Politics is for the politcians, not for the poeple living there.
loss of benefits - 2 -
by MrBill
There has been no solution put forward to solve the impasse over the monetisation of social benefits, although initial blame has been heaped on the doorstep of the parliament and the regional authorities by Mr. Putin perhaps indicating that he is preparing a partial backdown.
However, officials are insisting that due to higher than expected oil & gas prices that Russia may be able to afford extra benefits without dipping into its oil stabilization fund, a prospect that had deeply unnerved markets. Pensions which average R2000 ($72) per month would cost the government about $3.6 billion this year. A proposed increase of R240 per month is not likely to placate upset seniors, disabled workers and the police and military that face losing access to free medical care, public transport, and subsidized housing.
Monument in Alexander's Garden
by bugulma
In the center of Alexander's park you can see the Monument. It was built in 1913 to 300-years anniversary of Romanovs family dinasty, the family of Russian Tsars. 5 years later, after revolution, communists decided to keep monument but to break Tsars' names. Instead of it they wrote names of revolution heroes or revolution figures. Behind monument you see a grotto, founded in 1820-s with the project of the founder of Alexander's garden, Italian architect Bove. The aim of the grotto is to make funny of garden view, that it will be not boring. I've never been inside grotto because it's always close with walls.
Money
by xaver
If you like me, happen to arrive at the airport still with many rubles and cannot find a change office, you can use the duty free.
Infact they accept rubles but give you the change in dollars, so if you buy just small and cheap things and any time you pay with 1000 rubles, you soon get most of your money changed.
Extremes in Moskwa, so be prepared
by Pavlik_NL
The Moskwa summer can be very hot and about the winter everybody knows. In spring and autumn temperatures know enormous fluctuations and thus especially in these seasons one should be prepared for both cold as warm weather. Many, many films as Russia's capitol has so many places to go to and make photo's that one can never have enough. A map of town and a seperate metro-map can be a great help if you're going to roam around. Unlike many other metropoltin towns, metromaps are not everywhere distributed, though shops often have copies available (not free). Best is to print an example from internet (see transport).
