Lenin´s Mausoleum

by Mesje

Hi,
I am going to Moscow, and i will have time to visit the Lenin´s Mausoleum only during the weekend. Is there a big difference in queues there between weekend and week days? How soon before opening must I come to ensure, that i get in ? The tomb is open at 10 a.m., is it enough to came around 8 a.m.? Although the entrance is free, is there some way to skip the queue with paying extra money to a "guide" ? (i have heard about this possibility)...
Thanks

Mind that it is open for visitors only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m.
I am not sure how long is queue now... seems like not too long.

I think there is no need to come at 8 a.m., the line is not so huge. It can take 15-30min and moves fast. And there is a possibility to skip the line if you are interested in, but I'm not sure it has a sense. Pls keep in mind that its not allowed to carry cameras, knifes or anything of that kind to the Mausoleum.

Travel Tips for Moscow

by dreamworld

Moscow is really a big city...13 millions people live here and the city is very very width in surface...to go from Sheremetyevo airport (north-west) which is the main international place to Domedodovo airport (south-east), new international airport, former military base.. I guess there's something like 100 km to drive ! Well, I just visited the Kremlin area due to short free-time (I was on business) but the area is really wonderful !!! Also all those famous Russian Orthodox churches with their golden domes are great...

Shopping in GUM

by Sylva

If you are in possession of a long purse and you like to shop for expensive brand clothings, footware and accessories, the GUM department store (Glavnyi Universalnyi Magazin) is the place you want to go to. Located right on the Red Square.

PS. The place is really overpriced but the interior looks quite nice.

Go to The Tsar Bell......The two hundred ton Bell, though the largest in the world, was never sucessfully completed, much less prung.
A smaller predecessor(weighing in at mere 130 Tons) was built in the middle of the 17th century but ws destroyed in the Moscow fire of 1701.
Three decades latter the Empress Anna ordered the fragments to be recast into a much larger Bell, but the resultant wonder cracked in 1737 after having fallen into its casting pit.
Another Century passed before the Bell was lifted and set in its present location.
Beside the Bell lies a small Eleven Ton scrap that fell from the Bell during its excavation.

Elokhovskaya Orthodox Church - 11 -

by MrBill

The end of the ceremony and the official baptism certificate. The names are carefully checked against a list of official names. If the baby's name is not on the official list of the church, they cannot be given this name at baptism. The names of the godmother and godfather are also checked to make sure they are official church names. Mine was not.
