Spartak Moscow

by schmechi

We'll visit Moscow in August or September and we also want to visit Lushiniki to see a match of Spartak. I realize, that it isn't sold out every week, so I suppose that getting tickets won't be difficult. Should we just buy them in front of the stadium? I'd also appreciate all tipps and hints regarding visiting a match of Spartak.

Additionally I am seeking a schedule of the Russian league including the kick-off time (at the moment I orientate myself using http://www.rsssf.com/tablesr/rus09.html, but there are no kickoff-times.

Hi there! It seems to be hard to get the kick-off times but here are two links which might be useful. The first one is another calendar and table but you can also find info about the stadions and telephone numbers. The other one has links to all the clubs in the league where you can come to the clubs homepages and perhaps get better info about kick-off times by mailing the club. It's all in Russian but in fact it possible to get out quite much of it anyway.

in front of the stadium you may buy the tickets with the people who re-sell the tickets and it will be more expensive :-)) but yes, you may buy tickets in the ticket offices of the stadium just before the play. If you visit the Russian championship you may buy the tickets without problem (i did that twice as my experience, last time in 2007). you may order tickets in the special internet shops while you're in Moscow as well. usually they get RUR 200-300 for delivery

Tourist guides

by deeper_blue

In a city as large and historically rich as Moscow, it might be wise to employ a tourist guide. There are plenty wandering Red Square and the Kremlin, many speaking excellent English and other languages.
Check beforehand how much they will charge and how long the tour will be, and be aware of the extra costs involved in entering tourist spots.

Gun Tsar

by bugulma

The biggest gun of XVI century, which was made in 1586. The weight is 40 tons around. It was situated near of Spasskaya Tower, maybe for the defense. But the gun never fired and since XVIII century it became a museum exhibit in the Kremlin territory.

St Patrick's Day

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Moscow celebrates Sacred Patrick's day in thirteenth time. This national holiday of Ireland is a unique holiday which is authorized for celebrating in such scale. Any other state in the world has not received such privileges.
This time celebratory columns have passed on New Arbat from Sadovoje Koltzo up to the Arbat square. The holiday has turned out bright and cheerful. The national Irish melodies executed on delays and national tool ensemble of club " Heather " have especially been liked. The Irish wolfhounds looked funny. Knights and soldiers participated in an ancient armour in the procession. Thousand spectators observed the holiday.

While its painfully obvious that there is a basic inability to understand supply/demand/marketing in Russia, it is also obvious that raw capitalism has hit the streets...as is evidenced by this famous landmark statue hawking cigarettes on a billboard...
