Transit in Sheremetyevo

by Type0

Hi. Has anyone had experience with transiting in Sheremetyevo from one international flight to another one ? How long does it take, what procedures are involved, etc. ?

For example, if you arrive by Aeroflot from Munich to catch the connecting flight to Dubai.

I heard the transit system in Sheremetyevo is very different from the rest of the world.

If you transfer from international to international flight it is not big problem, as you don’t have to pass customs and passport control.
But if you are transferring from international to domestic flight in Sheremetyevo then system works like in USA, you should pass passport control in Sheremetievo-2, collect your language by yourself and go to another terminal for the domestic flight (there is free shuttle).
But be careful as new terminal was opened in Sheremetyevo and soon Aeroflot will start to move international flights there and they will not move all flights in one day, so there is possibility that you will arrive to old terminal but depart from new one, in this case I guess you will need Russian visa.

Travel Tips for Moscow

St. Basil's Cathedral

by luiggi

It was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible to celebrate his conquest of the Tatar city of Kazan on October 1, 1552, the day of the feast of the Intercession. The central chapel is surrounded by eight towerlike chapels linked by an elevated gallery. Each chapel is topped by an onion dome carved with its own distinct pattern and dedicated to a saint on whose day the Russian army won battles against the Tatars. The cathedral was built between 1555 and 1560 on the site of an earlier Trinity Church where the Holy Fool Vasily (Basil) had been buried in 1552.

I suggest you to visit the Gorky Park, is quite pretty, unfortunally now the park is divided in two separate zone; the park and a play zone (like EuroDisney but not so big). I dont't like this new zone, I think it was better when it was just a park, where you can walk in the silence.

Pancake week

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Pancake week is one of the most cheerful holidays in Russia.
This holiday we celebrate in Russia since pre-christian times. It was accepted to burn a scarecrow of winter before spring. People eat pancakes as symbols of the spring sun. Now this holiday anticipates a great post before easter.

Eating in the street

by Muscovite

Being an ‘Old Russian’, I still remember the days when eating, drinking, let alone smoking in the street was considered utterly bad form.

I mean, school kids would, of course, snatch an Eskimo (11 kopeck) now and then or even an ice-cream sugar cone with a creme rosette (19 kopeck) – that was for a special occasion, you know, a three-course meal in a school canteen was served for 30 kopeck.

But never if they were accompanied by teachers, parents and especially grand-parents – you wouldn’t find many granddads after the war, but Moscow grandmas would make any Red Chief behave.
