Daughters 21st in August in Moscow

by susan450

We are taking our daughter to Moscow for her 21st birthday, as she has always wanted to go there. Can anyone recommend something special that we can do on her actual birthday? Any special events etc. Obviously we will be visiting all the sites and attending the Kremlin/circus/ballet/river cruise/museums etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

It rather depends on the person than place

The National Library opposite the Kremlin would be good for some.
Others would prefer a park or the metro museum.
You may want to have an animated party and turn her into a fairy-tale Russian princess - but that would cost money.

Happy birthday in advance

Ah!That's a nice legend about cossack Stepan Rasin and beautiful Persian Princess!
But I am afraid our guests have to visit Southern Russia, but no Moscow to learn those rich folklore pearls!

Kutuzovskiy Prospekt

by HORSCHECK

The wide street Kutuzovskiy Prospekt used to be a prestigious residential area for very important people of the Soviet Union.

The building at number 26 was known as the Politbuero block, where people like Leonid Brezhnev and his Interior Minister Shchelokov as well as the head of the KGB Andropov owned flats.

Apart from this, there are several other interesting sights along the street.

Among them are the Moscow Hero City Obelisk and the Ukraina Hotel which is one of the Stalin's seven sisters.

Directions:
The Kutuzovskiy Prospekt can be found west of the city centre. It starts at the river Moskva near the Ukraina Hotel and leads in a westerly direction (metro: Kutuzovskaya, blue line).

by AndreasK

St. Basil's Cathedral was built from 1555-1561 by Russian architects Barma and Postnik Yaklovev during the reign of Ivan the Terrible to commemorate the victory of Russia over the Kazan Khan. Its popular name has long associated it with a ragged prophet who foretold the Moscow fire of 1547. St. Basil's rises from Red Square in an irresistible profusion of colors and shapes.

Those black cars you could find anywhere when I went to Moscow always reminded me to the spy films of the "cold war" era, where the soviet agents spied the hero of the movie and follwed him discreetly...

I suggest you to visit the Puskin Museum. It's in Ul. Volhonka near the Cremlin (about 3-400 meter). It's the Russian Finearts Museum, it has two floors full of paints. When you finish with the Puskin I can suggest you to walk ahead for about 600/700 meters until you'll arrive at the Bolsoj Teatr (it'll be on your left hand).
