The Pribaltiyskaya was designed by Soviet achitect Baranov & built by Skanska of Sweden between 1972 & 1978, in other words in the latter part of the Soviet era & is a good example of modern Soviet architecture. I recommend this hotel. I stayed for 2 nights in July, 1999 as part of a coach tour. The hotel seems popular with firms doing coach tours, with coaches from as far away as Spain. The hotel is (or was in 1999) Swedish-owned or managed.
The Pribaltiyskaya is located a good walk, taxi, underground, or bus ride from the city centre. It is adjacent to a beach, by the Gulf of Finland. The hotel is in a mainly residential area, so is a good place for checking out how ordinary Russians live. I've included the hotel's website should you need precise details. My room had a view over the Gulf of Finland (what do you expect to see from the window of a Sankt Peterburg hotel? ...The hanging gardens of Babylon? ...Krakatoa erupting?). When we arrive, there was fresh repairing made in our hotel rooms. Nice hotel, clean and quiet rooms. IIn the hotel was restaurant, and a tiny souvenir shop. Location wasn't the best. From city center there was driveing the marshrutka, what bring us to hotel. It wasn't the difficult for us, because we speak and understand the russian language and behavior. I think for people, who isn't understand russian, and visiting the Russia first time, it is difficult ...
