If you want a cheap, central, clean and friendly place to stay in St Petersburg, then look no further than the Nevsky Inn Bed & Breakfast. I couldn't believe my luck when I came across this place when researching our trip. It seemed way too good to be true...happily we weren't disappointed. Nevsky Inn is located just off Nevsky Prospekt, only a few minutes walk from the Hermitage, and around 10 minutes walk from the nearest metro station (Nevsky Prospekt).
Owned by a very friendly and helpful British guy, John, it is a small homely feeling place. There are only 7 rooms, but they are large and all have bathrooms. Our room was very spacious and clean. There is a kitchen area where breakfast is served, and you can use the facilities if you like. The B&B is located on the 4th floor of an old building - it looks terrible from the outside, but don't be put off by that. The only negative aspect would be that there is no lift....not a problem for us, but maybe for those who have a problem with climbing the stairs. This place was really good value for the quality and location. Our room was 75 euros, which included a hot breakfast and the friendliest service you could ask for. Highly recommended. | | | | Astoria: Five Star Hotel on St. Isaac's Square Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Not only is the Astoria hotel ranked as 5 stars, but it is in a 5-star location!! Adjacent to St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Nicholas I monument, it is within walking distance of Nevsky Prospeckt. If you're in the mood for a longer walk, see Peter the Great monument, also known as the "Bronze Horseman", in the Decembrist Square located on the River Neva waterfront! The Astoria Hotel was built in 1912 in the Art Deco style, and is now considered the flagship hotel of the Sir Rocco Forte hotel chain. The hotel features two restaurants, the Astoria Restaurant and the Winter Garden and even serves afternoon tea in the hotel lobby. In the hotel you'll also find a currency exchange, souvenir shop and a nightclub. Rooms are provided with cable TV, mini-bars, safe and hairdryers. Click on the accompanying picture to enlarge the photo and see the hotel behind the Nicholas I monument. The 241 rooms here are exceptionally expensive, but prices differ with the accommodation type and the time of the year. Expect prices to start at USD$250 and may go up to $550 for suites!! For that kind of money, ask for a room with a view of St. Isaac's Square or one of the other exceptional sights in the area. | | | | St. Petersburg International Hostel: Centrally located youth hostel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I stayed there in September which is already off season. All the doubles were full but the dormitories with 5 beds were almost empty, so I had the room 2 nights to myself. The price for a bed in the dormitory was 570 roubles with the member card, breakfast included. Check out time 11 am (strict). Only one key to a room. If you are too late to make a booking via IBN or internet, just call them. They don't register your visa if the visa support is not from them but they give you an address where they do it for you for 550 roubles but it takes at least 24 hours.
There is a kitchen, luggage storage room, toilets on each floor but the showers are on the first floor. Breakfast was first from 8-10 and then suddenly changed to 9-11. The old babushkas are very ridig but if you speak some Russian they can be very nice. You are not supposed to sit longer than 20 minutes at breakfast which consists of tea or coffee, white bread, a slice of cheese, butter, jam, hard boiled egg, orange juice and cereal.
