Maybe I’m too late, but I’d advise you a good way of getting from the airport to a hotel, etc: call the company Autoluxa : they provide good and inexpensive transportation services – I like it! As for bars and cafes – there are so many of them in the city and they differ so much in decoration and services that I’d recommend you to decide on the spot. A great trip to you!

BAZAINE Pierre-Dominique (1786-1838)

by Klod5

BAZAINE was the author of a lot of bridges of St.-Petersburg and his outskirts. It is always as pleasing to contemplate the light small very elegant metallic bridges close to the garden of summer.

It is he that conceived the constructions of the floors of the Palace of winter, the Theater Alexandrinski and the Cathedral of the St.-Trinidad. He directed the works of construction of the Obvodni channel, the buildings Senate and Synod of the sluices of Shlisselbourg, of the hydraulic constructions of the Okhtinski factory. Copper Rider (Monument to Peter I the Great)

by bugulma

The Monument was open in October 7, 1782. Ekaterina II the Great ordered it to French architect Falkone, on the monument you may see words (in Russian) "To Peter I. Ekaterina II". The monument is placed on the huge stone in 1600 tons that was brought from Finnish Gulf shore near of the city.

I remember hearing in the early '90s about young Russian women trying to meet American men so that they could marry them and move to the United States. I don't know if that kind of thing still happens or if this sign is advertising that kind of service, but we thought it was funny, because when I first met my friend Val, I couldn't remember her name, so I kept calling her "Svetlana" - one of the only Russian names I knew. I saw this sign outside a building when we were walking around and said to Val, "Hey, Svetlana! Why not pose by this sign for me!" I guess it's kind of our little inside joke, but doesn't she look like a cute Russian princess in this picture?

Nabokov Museum

by mumymama

Nabokov is my favorite writer. You will see “Half an hour with Nabokov” film in English/French/Russian (on request) and his butterfly collection. On display are magazines like The New Yorker (April 1949, “sexiest New Yorker since Lolita”) or a Playboy (1969) mentioning his name. It was a super modern house in that Russia with an elevator, 5 bathrooms and a garage for 3 cars.

Yelagin Palace

by sennaya

Yelaginoostrovsky Palace-Museum on Krestovsky Ostrov was built by Ivan Yelagin on the Yelagin Island next to Krestovsky Island. It was destroyed by Nazis inWWII but rebuilt. Many changing exhibitions and events held there.

Besides the palace there are boats to rent and pony rides. In winter there is ice skating and sled rentals. Good family walking place.

Take metro Krestovsky Ostrov and cross through the park to Yelagin Island.
