Hi - check over on www.cruisecritic.com. Go to boards/ports of call/Europe/Northern Europe & Baltics. You should find some recommendations there. Have a great cruise!

We used Denrus http://www.denrus.ru/ earlier this year and they were brilliant our Guide Maria was a fountain of information plus the price includes your visa. I found them via Cruise Critic.

Hi Milton,
If you haven't chosen a guide, I would strongly suggest going to www.guide-petersburg.com
We used Gennadiy a year ago. He is fantastic. He will pick you up and has a world of knowledge. He rates are really reasonable. We have also used DenRus in the past, they were also good, but I would use Gennadiy for a personal guide. St. Petersburg is wonderful. We hope to go back next 2011.

Travel Tips for Saint Petersburg

Spectacular Palaces

by wizzdol

Hermatage, Peterhof, Catherine Palace. St Petrsburg was all that I expected and more. We only had 2 very long and wonderful days there on our Baltic Cruise but I was so impressed with it. Our trips from the Cruise ship were VERY expensive. Just a couple of things which might help other people visiting these places. We were told that everywhere on our cruise would take Euros or US Dollars, they will if you want to buy goods. In all the palaces you are not allowed to take in a drink as some idiot once took in some acid in a water bottle and threw it at a painting! We were there in July 2008 and it was very hot, when we went to the cafe for a drink they will only take Rubels and the Russians are not very helpful about changing money. Catherine Palace ,the inside is unbelievable and Peterhof Gardens and fountains.

Saint-Petersbourg est une ville exceptionnelle dans la mesure où pour la première fois, en Russie, elle n'a pas été construite sur une hauteur, mais sur les îles d'un delta, dans un espace naturel conditionné par les bras de la Néva.
St-Petersburg is an exceptional city insofar as for the first time, in Russia, it has not been constructed on a height, but on the islands of a delta, in a natural space conditioned by the arms of the Neva.

Russian Beer

by HORSCHECK

Russia has a wide range of local beers. I tried a few different brands and found them all tasty. Among them were Baltika, Tinkoff, Botchkarev and Nevsky.
One of the most popular Russian beers is Baltika which has also a brewery in St. Petersburg. Their different brands are identifiable by a number on the label. My favourite is Baltika 3, which is a classic lager with about 4,8 % alcohol.

You shouldn't need me to tell you, but...

...if you find yourself in Russia in the winter, for the love of all that is good and true, bring wool and flannel everything. Fleece, that's a good idea as well. Fur! My mink earmuffs and flannel-lined jeans, I think they saved my life! Don't forget the heavy wools, hats, socks, boots, and layered gloves and mittens.

Park in Tsar's Village

by ania70pl

When you are in the Tsar's Village visit also beautiful park around the palace. If it only wouldn't rain when I was there and I wouldn't have to wear so many clothes (look at the pic, I have two jackets on me;-)) I'm sure I'd spend more time there walking and enjoying the park.
