Astoria for Traditional quality
Five star accommodation caters to the foreign visitor. For regular tourist it also has some assistance for tours and facilities. Staff all speak english.
Unique Quality: It has 223 rooms.
Hermitage Museum is only a short walk away.

Well worth the expense!
What a wonderful hotel! The Astoria is pricey, but worth it. The rooms, lobby, restaurant, and bars are all decorated with deep dark woods, and full of antique furnishings. You can just smell the money everywhere.
Unique Quality: The room was furnished with old, beat up furniture and decor. I loved it, it was classic. I went out shopping and to dinner, when I got back, the bed was turmed down, a floormat and slippers were beside the bed, and a bottle of water and a glass were left on the night table. Very cool.

Five Star Hotel on St. Isaac's Square
Not only is the Astoria hotel ranked as 5 stars, but it is in a 5-star location!! Adjacent to St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Nicholas I monument, it is within walking distance of Nevsky Prospeckt. If you're in the mood for a longer walk, see Peter the Great monument, also known as the "Bronze Horseman", in the Decembrist Square located on the River Neva waterfront!
The Astoria Hotel was built in 1912 in the Art Deco style, and is now considered the flagship hotel of the Sir Rocco Forte hotel chain. The hotel features two restaurants, the Astoria Restaurant and the Winter Garden and even serves afternoon tea in the hotel lobby. In the hotel you'll also find a currency exchange, souvenir shop and a nightclub. Rooms are provided with cable TV, mini-bars, safe and hairdryers.

The 241 rooms here are exceptionally expensive, but prices differ with the accommodation type and the time of the year. Expect prices to start at USD$250 and may go up to $550 for suites!! For that kind of money, ask for a room with a view of St. Isaac's Square or one of the other exceptional sights in the area.

A great place to stay
I liked being so close to Nevsky Prospect and shopping like at Gostiny Dvor along with the metro being so close it was easy to get anywhere I wished to go in minutes.
Visitors also have access to the "Angleterre" Hotel's services
Unique Quality: ASTORIA HOTEL is the member of the Rocco Forte Hotels chain and is perfectly located in the heart of Saint Petersburg near nevsky Prospect..
Close to the hotel there are such landmarks as the Admiralty, Saint Isaac Cathedral, the Hermitage, and the Mariinsky Theater.
The subway stations Nevsky Prospect and Gostiny Dvor are very close as well.

Art Nouveau style hotel right in the heart of both the historical and business centers of the city, within 10 minutes' walking distance from the main city attractions and the shopping area, 30 minutes from the airport by taxi.
The "Astoria" makes an ideal starting point from which to discover Saint-Petersburg, Russian history and culture. It was in December 1912, that the doors of the hotel "Astoria" (architect Fedor Lidval) were First opened to the public. The luxurious interiors in the "Northern Modern" style have always impressed the wealthiest and most respected of Russian high society.
Unique Quality: The "Astoria" enjoys superb location in the very heart of the city, situated on Saint Isaac's Square opposite the impressive Saint Isaacs Cathedral, the Mariinsky Palace and the equestrian statue of Nicholas the 1. The proximity of the Senate and Synod, the Admiralty, the offices of major companies and banks underline the importance of the hotels location in the city.

Finest Hotel in Russia
I stayed here in 2001 and at the time it was the most palatial and luxurious hotel in Russia. It has been there seince the 1700's and is the place to stay in St. Petersburg.
It is expensive but worth it.
Unique Quality: A real 5 star hotel. Terrific location. It is where Hitler planned to have his celebration dinner after the fall of Lenningrad. That did not quite turn out the way he planned it!
The restaurant is superb. The dining room is always packed with the best and most well heeled travelers in the area. One night while we were there the Chinese Ambassador and his party were in the restaurant.
