Luggage and Public Transport

by Grevil

We are arriving mid afternoon to Pulkovo Airport - Domestic terminal, (in September) and I have been told that there is a bus no. 39 which will take us to Moskovskaya Metro Station.

Is this info. up-to-date?
Will we they let us take our luggage on that bus?
How frequently does bus 39 run?
Will the ticket we get, include the Metro trip? , or do we need a different ticket for the Metro? - our hotel is near Nevsky Prospekt Metro Station.

As an alternative to the public bus system, would it be better to use an "Airline" bus to the city? (if one exists?).

Any info would be apprectiated.

Thanks,

Hello Grevil,
take a look on
http://www.oksanas.net/St_Petersburg_Russia_transfers/airport_transfer.asp

Oksana was a Virtual Tourist Member; now she is very busy with her company so she has no frre time to update her VT account.
Anyway, two years ago I booked airport transfer and apartment contacting her company. Consider it, maybe this way could become interesting!

Sincerly,
Fabrizio

bus 39 still exists. moreover there is marshrutka (minibus) with the same number has a stop in front of the airport. both go to Moskovskaya metro station. it is allowed to take your luggage both to bus and mini-bus (with extra-pay for the place (don't remember the price though). During weekend the bus goes 25-30 minutes around and for mini-bus, which hasn't stops during the route, 15 minutes is quite enough. In work days it will be a bit longer depending on the traffic. The metro ticket is not included in the bus ticket.
about airline bus - I didn't hear such bus...

Hi!
Look through http://www.pulkovoairport.ru/eng/transportation/
http://www.pulkovoairport.ru/eng/transportation/city_bus/
So you can take a city bus or shuttle bus # 39. Airline bus isn’t existed.
Yes, you have to buy new ticket - token (Zheton in Russian) for entering to Metro.

Good luck!

The cost of
bus ticket is 19 rub for one trip
metro ticket is 22 rub for one trip from any station to any station
minibus is 30-35 rub from airport to metro
if you have one small bag you shouldn't pay for baggage ticket

Re: Luggage and Public Transport

by bugulma

i used mini-bus less than month ago it was RUR 26...hmmm, I should be ready to higher price this weekend :-)

Re: Luggage and Public Transport

by guide-spb

yes it can be 26 rub. i think that difference between 26 and 35 rub is not big for guests from Europe or USA =)

Re: Luggage and Public Transport

by Grevil

Thanks Guide-spb. Would it be another 26 rubles for each piece of luggage?

Also BTW (by the way) what's the weather likely to be in September? Would the daytime temperatures usually be more than 20 celsius or less?

Thanks,

I guess usually temperature is normaly higher than 20C in September, although depends on the year...
The luggage fee is lower (sorry, don't remember exact price...)

Stroll through the streets and squares along the water, where some of the most impressive architecture is to be found. This is Palace Square (facing away from the Hermitage Museum). Nearby you can find beautiful structures like the Naval Academy, several massive cathedrals, and other monuments to Russia's imperial past.

The Traveller

by RB_Oakes

Peterburgers are the masters of the Traveller. Forget walking around town with some fey water bottle or childish soda, the most popular accesory in St. Petersburg is a bottle of beer. Men, women of all creeds, income strata and ages, and even teenagers are not to be seen with Gambrinial accompaniment. Many of Russia's major brands are from St. Pete - Baltika, Nevskoe, and Bochkarev among them - so I guess it's not a surprise. It's actually quite refreshing to have a beer with you and not be gazed upon as though you were a wino straight from the gutter, like I would be back in Toronto. Travellers rule!

Going to the theatre? Don't be a punk

by liusia

If you plan on going to the theatre, opera, ballet, etc. at all while in St. Pete's, you should really bring along a classier outfit. Russians there will be dressed up, even more so if you go to one of the big theatres like the Mariinsky. Nice black pants and a dress shirt/blouse will do, just make sure you stay away from jeans and fanny packs - you'll feel out of place, trust me.
