Nashotel 4*

Nashotel is situated in Vasilievsky Island, 10 minutes by walk from Vasileostrovskaya metro station (direction - 11th line of the Island). In my opinion, 4-stars is too much (not much facilities in comparision with several 3-stars hotels I used during travelling in Europe and even in Russia) - but it is my subjective opinion.
The hotel could be seemed to be situated in distance from general sight-seeings but for me, it is ok (but, again, my subjective opinion is I like Vasilievsly Island for my staying at StP city).
We had DBL for RUR 3200 per night (EUR 75 around) with breakfast, it seems the price was for low season.
The service was excellent.
The only funny thing for me is that the woman who cleans the room, knocked at the door at 10 am first day with words "when can I clean the room" :-) it seems she was in hurry to go home :-))

http://igora.biz/ - I did not find its English page. My daughter likes it for snowboarding, I spent a weekend there last summer and it was fine. Book it for week-days as it may be overcrowded on weekends.

Travel Tips for Saint Petersburg

Personal Guide

by Patlh

Hi Milton,
If you haven't chosen a guide, I would strongly suggest going to www.guide-petersburg.com
We used Gennadiy a year ago. He is fantastic. He will pick you up and has a world of knowledge. He rates are really reasonable. We have also used DenRus for small group in the past, they were also good. I would definitely use Gennadiy for a personal guide. St. Petersburg is wonderful. Enjoy!

Amazing fountains of...

Russian language, local customs

by rom777

If you have native English, and would like to communicate with somebody from Saint-Petersburg, you can find person, who is leaning English and would like spoken practice.
I am for example :)
I can face-to-face tell you about local customs, Russia, Saint-Petersburg, things to do, nightlife, dancelife (salsa, tango), off the beaten paths and can answered of your questions and give other general tips.

You can Run, but you can't Hide

by Lildeer

Mosquitoes are the second most intelligent life form in Saint Petersburg, you cannot evade them! Do not assume that walls will afford you any protection. Insect repellent is vital in the summertime, even while you sleep. If not Deet, take Vitamin B pills to make you stinky to bugs.

Central Railway Museum

by mikelisaanna

This museum has two separate parts. The first is an indoor museum covering the history of railraods in Russia. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day we tried to visit it. We were, however, able to visit the other part of the museum, which is an outdoor exhibit of locomotives and railcars from various eras of Russian railroading. The outdoor section of the museum is located about a mile from the indoor section. On the day we were there, there were only about 10 people there, and we were the only non-Russians. Our daughter, who loves choo choo trains, was very happy that we went out of our way to visit it.
