Novotel St Petersburg Centre: Super location sevice not so great

Hotel is modern, clean and the rooms are nice. The lobby is small , modern has a bar where they serve drinks and coffee. The location is great half a block of the commercial area of Nevsy, close to stores and many restaurants. The staff though still has the "old Russian" attitude...i.e they are doing you a favor . I needed to change a date and add a day of my reservations...after hours and numerous long distance calls where the manager was never available I was told that they would charge me for the cancelled day even though I was just moving the date and adding a day...When I said I would then go to another hotel their response was simply 'do whatever you want". I did. Messages that were left for me never were delivered causing me delays and lost time.
