Although I was born in SpB, I haven't lived there for almost 15 years. I stayed at this hotel with my then-boyfriend, now husband. Absolutely marvelous room service. Very clean. They bring you everything you need on your first request. My boyfriend was checking faxes from work and the receptionist was kind enough to save huge stacks of faxes for him to go through. Our computer broke down once and she let us use ours. Staff is very experienced, they help you out with rental car companies, meet you at the airport. The food is incredible, I wouldn't be surprised if the chef studied in France.
Unique Quality: Although the hotel is within the short drive from the airport, it is not noisy and you don't hear planes in the overhead. It's 2 blocks to the metro. Also, the hotel is located in a very safe area. Take a stroll down to Moscow Univermag.
1st of all, I didn't live there, I lived nearby and usually went to hotels restaurant
2nd, the hotel survived rennovation several years ago and no more looks "typically soviet", can't tell you about the rooms but lobby interior and restaurant food are decent, not of very high standard but accebtable...
Unique Quality: The hotel stands on Moskovsky prespekt (avenue), wide and very long thoroughfare of the city, which leads from Pulkovo airport almost to Nevesky Prespekt.
By taxi it takes about 15 minutes to get to the airport and about 20-25 to the very center of the city.
There is a metro stop nearby.
If you are traveling with a tour group there is a good chance that you will be located at either this hotel or Hotel Pribaltiskaya.
Of the two, the Pulkovskaya Hotel is easier to get to the city from, it is located on the outskirts of the city, a 20 minute metro ride from the city center plus a 10 minute walk to the metro station. It is 5 km from the airport, I think it was about a 10 minute drive. The Pribaltiskaya, if memory serves me, was not served by the metro although there was a local tram/bus that we used.
This mammoth hotel has 840 rooms, divided into 2 blocks. The room was fine, the bed reasonably comfortable, small refrigerator, no hair dryer in the standard room.
A breakfast buffet is included in the rate, our group also got a buffet dinner. The food was adequate for breakfast, we opted to pass on dinner as there were much better options in the city.
This hotel was fine but I would not have stayed here if not with a group.
