st peters lutheran church on nevsky prospekt

I visited St. Peters Lutheran Church on Nevsky Prospekt in 1994. At that time a swimming pool (not being used) existed in the nave. I understnad that the church has been restored. Is there a photo of the restored sanctuary?

We attended a classsical music concert there recently.
It is renovated in a clean simple way. Everything is painted white.

The ceiling looks like this, not sure if the floor is the same. It feels more like a concert hall or auditorium than church.
Now they put removable chairs in the nave for the audience and many events are held there.
An American conductor John Baltimore was at the concert we saw. They have about 700 seats. The orchestra was in the Sanctuary and the audience in the Nave as I understand church architecture. Looks like we can't post our own pictures in the forum :(

Aleksandrovskaya Column

There is the beautiful ensemble of Dvorzovaya Square with Alesksandrovskaya Column in the center. The column was built in 1830-1834 by Monferant in honour of the Aleksander I’s victory in the war against Napoleon. In general, the ensemble is similar to Vandome Square in Paris, but the square is bigger, the column is higher. The angel on the top of the column has a face of Aleksander I (Napoleon statue is on the top of Vandome column).
Vodka and Beer

I had noticed many locals carrying bottles of beer or vodka at any time of the day. I cannot say they were drunken - no way!
I was quite irritated to see so many walking on sidewalks with alcohol in their hand, even businessman, well-dressed ladies or even teenager. I hardly saw somone loitering in the park or sleeping on a bench.
Seemed drinking is a kind of national (or at least local) sport.
By the way, I bought one litre of Vodka in a supermarket - as a gift; not to participate the local sport ! I didn't buy the cheapest bottle and were charged by 1.80 € ($ 2.10) only! Alcohol is extremely cheap in Russia!
A pink church!

Chesma Church - After seeing this little church pictured in my guidebook, I was intrigued and hoped to find time to visit. Our independent guide was exceedingly accomodating to all my whims and made sure we stopped. The style is Neo-Gothic, but the most outstanding feature is highly decorated PINK facade with white vertical strips of moulding.
Opposite the church is the Chesma Palace but we didn't venture inside, had too many other palaces to visit that day.

Open: 10 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily
Winter Ice Fishing

February, the coldest month, is a good month to spot ice fishermen. Usually seen on the finland Gulf, they may be on any lake or if they are not too ambitious, they may be on a canal in the city.
Here on Fontanka River one man tries his luck.
The water is not too clean in the canals, maybe it is best to feed these fish to the cats.
