traveling with baby in st petersburg

by alcora

Hello- my husband and I will be spending 4days in St Petersburg with our 1 year old son next month. Does anyone have advice re. traveling in St. Petersburg with a baby? I would love recommendations for restaurants which might accomodate children (e.g. have high chairs). Also curious whether it is to find diapers, baby wipes and baby food in Russian supermarkets.

Any thoughts would be great. thanks!

St. Petersburg is like most cities. Many parents with strollers. Some even wrestle them down the metro escalators. The larger groceries all have jars of baby food and diapers are everywhere.

Streets can be a little bumpy for strollers.
Should be mild weather, but be prepared for rain any day :)

Travel Tips for Saint Petersburg

Look at Russian Orthodox...

Look at Russian Orthodox cathedrals. Although St. Petersburg was build like a Western city, it is very Russian in the sense of religion. Orthodox Cathedral did not start to look differently in St. Petersburg. It is a Savior-on-Blood Cathedral, and as you can see, it is onion-shaped.

The Peter & Paul Fortress

by Klod5

Peter's first concern in the creation of St. Petersburg was with the defense of the approaches of the Neva river delta, and the Peter and Paul Fortress was the first major building project undertaken. In fact, it is entirely possible that the idea of building a new capital city on the site occurred to the young Tsar while he was living in his cottage and supervising the fortress's construction.

Griffins, Bank Bridge

by bugulma

If you go along Griboedov Channel Embankment, behind Kazansky Cathedral, the first bridge you see is Bank Bridge. To the left of the bridge is University of Finance now but in previous time it was a building of the central bank of Russia. And griffons are a symbol of the richness' guard.

Dostoevsky's grave

by hslowe

Hardcore literary fans should consider visiting Dostoevsky's grave in Tikhvin Cemetary at the Alexander Nevsky Monastery. He is surrounded by other great artists, including many famous composers such as Tchaikovsky.

For about 80 R you can buy a two-sided color map that points out, in English and Russian, where the graves of famous artists are located within the cemetery.

Park Pobedy (Metro Park...

by mayafly

Park Pobedy (Metro Park Pobedy)
Park Pobedy is about a 20-minute metro ride from the center, but it is well worth the trip. With pretty lakes and birch trees, a fountain, and boats that can be rented, it's a great place to walk or jog, or simply sit and enjoy nature. The park was created by citizens at the end of World War II to commemorate those who died during the blockade of Leningrad. The Allee Geroyev (Heroes' Alley) has busts of heroes of the war.
