    I didn't stay in this hotel, but visited it on two occasions. It's an old, big Soviet style hotel near Neva. The only thing that I really liked about the place was the stunning view of the river (if you get a room facing the river, of course). Otherwise the rooms were rather old and run-down and the whole atmosphere was not very upbeat.

    This is a very cheap hostel. I think I paid about 9 euro/night in July 2004, but when that is said then remember that sometimes quality and price do walk hand in hand. The toilet and bath facilities are acceptable, though not always very inviting. The beds… well it fells like sleeping on a park bench sometimes… the mattresses are not very thick at least, and if you are one of those people who attracts mosquitoes… well then prepare for the worst. I thought I was lucky to get a bed near the window… bad move, after two days I looked like something from a cartoon. When that is said then I have to add that it is located right next to a very beautiful park (park pobedy), just avoid the park at night since there are no lights at night. But all in all if you are not to critical about where to sleep then this place is good enough, but I recommend that you make an enquiry with the international hostel firstly.

  • A hostel right in the town center of St petersburg. Not expensive and clean rooms. Everything is verry clean and it's quiet in during the nights...

    lots of toilets, breakfast incluided, tv on your room (great to watch russian bands on mtv)
    free water for everybody :-)
    You have to buy the wodka yourself

  • It's better to rent an apartment in the city: it can be old room with rarity furniture in the house built in 1919, another time - art studio or two levels room, so it depends on your wish. Such apartments can tell you more about russians and their customs more that you think. It's very easy: if you arrive to Moscow railway station there is many women coming there with yellow papers. Single/double apartments costs near 50-70 euros.
