Probably too shabby for your average tourist, but the location is fabulous. The staff are friendly, the shower water hot and the internet functional. The beds and sheets and spaces were clean. The spaces whether dormitory, showers, kitchen etc. are small. The place could also use a good paint job.
The location is enough to make me certain to return upon my next visit to Moscow. It also explains how I could be "very satisfied" in a place where the value and amenities are poor compared to most hostels I have experienced in the world. It is near the Smolenskaya Metro station. For me, compared to an expensive Russian hotel, this was actually a great experience. Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 51 Arbat Street, second or third floorDirections: Actually it is kind of tricky to find because there is no building labeled "51" on Arbat street. The building is opposite the Hard Rock Cafe, but the hostel is to the back and not obvious until you see the actual door.

The high cost of hotels in Russia makes finding a hostel or private home (DOM) important for the lone cheap traveler. If you do not speak Russian, the private home option seems rather forbidding. Also their locations are not obvious. Although I had the Lonely Planet published the year of my travel (2009) 3 or the 5 hostels I searched for were not functional. One in St Petersburg I found the old sign but no hostel. In V. Norgorod I am sure I had the right address but the building was being used for a different purpose and when I "asked" the people had no idea of a hostel/hotel nearby. In Suzdal the address and location on the map did not agree, still I found the place but it was closed for major repair. The other part of the challenge is the poor signage and somewhat obscure locations. Good directions are very helpful.
The major advantage is the low cost compared to even the cheapest hotels. At the two hostels I did stay at the computer access was good, kitchen use was available and English spoken. A youngish Russian friend said he did not know that such cheap accommodation existed in Moscow at such a good location. (The Home from Home is just off Arbat street across from where there is a Hard Rock Cafe.)

Adequate facilities and amenities but a bit shabby and cramped compared to other European, Chinese or South American hostals. Clean enough. The friendly staff speaks English and were helpful. The staff did mention that they do provide "letters of invitation" as needed for the visa application process.
Location, location, location. It just does not get better than this. by Kars This was another fair participation as usual... Instead of hotel's money-smell atmospfere , we simply wanted to stay in a place where we would feel like at our home... We were 4 friends and had enough rooms there, for us. Thanks to Dimitri and his partner Timur ( +7.499.922 91 34 mobile )

This is the place I usually stay at when I am in Moscow.it's meant for teachers only but they take everybody provided they have vacant rooms. I never book it, just arrive there and check in. Moscow (and Russia in general) is notorious for having the most expensive accomodation, so if you want to save some money, stay there, it was 500 rubles a night with breakfast in 2006. they have double and triple rooms with a shared bathroom(for each 2 rooms).Decent.

Hotel Tiflis, also known as Hotel Kebur Palace is a great little boutique hotel in a fantastic area near Park Kultur in Moscow. It's location close to the Moscow river and a short walk to the Kremlin makes it an ideal spot to rest your legs for a week or so. Other spots close by include Little Arbat and Pushkin Museum. It has a superb restaurant which serves delicious Georgian-style cuisine, and the breakfasts were an experience in themselves - a huge choice of hot and cold foods, fruit, pastries - it became an obscession! It was mid-August and extremely hot in Moscow and the small pool in the basement of the hotel was a welcome site after a full day of heat, humidity and sight-seeing. Service was excellent and staff friendly. There is also a small 24-hour supermarket with a great deli section up the road. The area around the hotel is interesting, old-style buildings slowly being renovated and restored, quiet tree-lined streets with cafes and stores - takes one out of the hustle and bustle of Moscow's busy boulevards. It's also a short walk to Gorky Park and a great wander down to the river and across to Kievsky train station. I strongly recommend this hotel for it's quality service and location.
The pool area, although indoors, has been done in a way that it gives one a sense of being outdoors! The food and restaurant service was superb. Chose a rennovated room as I had been told that the standard ones were rather sub-standard. The room was well-decorated, warm and all the facilities you would expect of a western 3/4 star hotel. Everything worked too including international satellite tv (incl. CNN and BBC). I did not have any meals at the hotel, but I did use the small lobby cafe-bar which was fine. The hotel was very concious of guest security including arm guards in the lobby (this didn't feel intimidating either.
The hotel is in a good location, just yards from the foriegn ministry and the Moskva river and within easy walking distance of Arabatskya

View from the window hotel by AngieMae I lodged at the "Holiday inn". It is a luxury hotel, I don't know how much expensive it is, but it's very good. There is breakfast, Tv, strong box, gym, pool, bar, a restaurant (this is expensive), Internet (expensive too), but it's preferable to use internet in other place. I don't have complaints on this hotel. And they all speak English, it is a relief. Theme: HotelAddress: Rusakovskaya street, 24. Moscow 107014. RussiaPhone: +7(495)786-7373Website: www.holidayinn.com
