Hi there !
Does anyone have updated information on waiting times and difficulties of border crossings from Lithuania into Kaliningrad (Curanian Spit) and exiting to Poland ? I have read stories of smugglers virtually blocking the RU/PL border. I am planning to pass thru on a 48 hours transit visa and I do not plan to spend those hours in a line at the border. ;)
How about going north thru Kaliningrad from Poland to Lithuania ?

On my visit to the Curonian Spit last year, I drove to the Russian border just to take a brief look (did not cross it myself). There were no lines at the border and the cars that I saw passing didn't have to wait long. But I'm not sure if the border is open to nationalities other than Russian.

hello please i want to know if this 48 hours transit visa at the kaliningrad border to poland is applicable to family members to EEC citizen accompanying their relatives to through the kaliningrad border. if the family member is a non EEC that is theird country citizen but on a touristic trip from africa to kaliningrad with relative which is a ECC citizen can they move futher to polan territory with the 48 hours transit visa, thanks and hope i can get from you some informations
There are a few internet sites that provide more information about this city. http://www.kaliningrad.info/ is not often updated but contains much information. http://www.ostsicht.de is in German but has a big collection of pictures from Kaliningrad and many other places in the district. And I'm just plain jealous of the person who made http://www.euronet.nl/~jlemmens for what he has visited.
There was of task in old Koenigsberg whether it is possible to walk along all 7 bridges in the city center once and only once. The theory for the task was fonded by Leonhard Euler in 1736. On the wall of the one of the buildings in Museum of Ocean we saw this picture about the task of 7 bridges.
This church was directly next to the border control - hence I had to be carefull in taking pictures. This was just one of the few ruins that I could see travelling through the enclave. Relicts of the Second World War - and till today left untouched. I believe some former German buildings of the old Koenigsberg have been restored, but the country side it looked like if the war had just ended.
There were plenty of petrol stations along the way - though before entering Russia I was told that I should fill up the car in Poland, since apparantly fuel quality in Russia was not en-par with the European Union.
Fishermen Monument complex was placed on Pregolya river in 1978 in honour of ocean fishermen (the monument is Museum of Ocean near by). The monument was reconstructed in 2008. In 2009 the statue of St Nikolay the Wonderer was placed in front of the monument. The complex was restored and open in 2010.
