Ferry from Sochi to Trabzon -30.06. 08???

by Yiannis2000

I am planning to travel from Sochi to Trabzon in the end of June 08 and I am wondering whether there is an available timetable somewhere online, to plan my trip. Is there an alternative route to Batumi??
Additionally, is there atrain from Sochi to Sukhumi, can I travel with a Russian visa in Greek passport? (I can have another passport for possible visits to Georgia).
Regards from Oslo!
Yiannis

Travel Tips for Sochi

An unusual amount of cinema's

by Pavlik_NL

The Russian Film Festival that is held in Sochi has lead to an unusual amount of cinema's in the average large town Sochi. In at least five large cinema's that are in the centre of Central Sochi, one can visit a wide choice in international, but also Russian films. The film festival, that attracts all Russian film stars, is held in the first half of June. If you want to join, realise that you have to book hotelrooms etc. far in advance.

Deep in the mountain, "Foronsuskii" Caves

by Pavlik_NL

Over millions of years the waters ran over an through the Caucasus mountains and - like in other mountainous places - created a marvel in the earth. Caves, like here at "Foronsuski", were only discovered in the last century. It's beautiful sculptures and strange dark rooms deep inside the mountains can now only be visited by tourists in the last decade. Hopefully, the guides and expolitators of these caves swiftly learn the immens fragility of the stalactites and stalagmites, as during our visit all of the visitors were touching and feeling the "seemingly hard" stone, breaking down a process of about a hundred years by one simple movement of a finger! Enjoying these wonders with the eye is however a joy and shows the magnificent forces of nature.

Your arrival in Sochi or not, go to the station!

by Pavlik_NL

The station in Sochi can hardly be just called a station. Sochi Vokzal is a masterpiece of architecture and warmly welcomes all visitors that arrive by train. The graceful tower with clock is surrounded with palmtrees that compete with it's height (and loose). The hall ways are decorated with classic lantarns and slim columns that lift the roof. Truely the most beautiful station I ever saw.
