Revolution Square

Next general tip is Revolution Square. It is just in few steps from Upper Pond. The square is the beginning for the one of the main streets of Lipetsk, Sovetskaya Street. In the middle of the square there is monument. I heard a funny name for it, "a man with towel". Well, it's rather like that

Lipovka River View

Another river flowing in the city is Lipovka. It divides central and northern parts of the city. I must say I crossed it by bridge but I didn’t see the river, just a kind of jungle under the bridge, you may see it on the picture.

Theatre

On the crossing of Sovetskaya Street and Frunze Street there is theatre of Lipetsk. It has a name in honour of the famous Russian writer Lev Tolstoy. There is wonderful area in front of the theatre with wonderful fountains and nice view to the city (some of them are in travelogue).

"Metallurgists' city"

It was my second business trip to Lipetsk but now I had a lot of time to enjoy it. my colleagues invited me to come in Sunday that to show the city and to have a talking outside the job. The weather was great and I really enjoyed my trip.
Lipetsk as a city is a result of mining works in the region. It was beginning in the end of XVII century, when in 1693 the mining factory was built on the place the city is situated nowadays. The manufacture developed and produced weapon in general because war with Sweden broke out. In those times population was up 600 people. In 1779 Lipetsk officially had a city status. In the end of XVIII mining manufactures were closed but mineral springs were discovered and the development of the city proceeded as a spa. In 1806 the building works general plan was confirmed and many stone buildings were raised. In soviet times in the city the one of the biggest metallurgical factory of the world was built, Novolipetsky Metallurgichesky Kombinat, and the city began to be associated with metal. All the time since foundation Lipetsk was a part of Tambov region and in 1954 in USSR the new region appeared, Lipetskaya Oblast’, with center in Lipetsk.
