Comfortable Western Hotel
Economy rooms in the Polarnye Zori hotel is basic, large, clean and comfortable. The price for a double room is very reasonable. Friendly English speaking staff, travel agencies, conference rooms, sauna, ironing-room, restaurant, bar, good internet acces, nightclub... Everything you need is in the hotel! Central location and plenty of supermarkets in the area! Lots of (western) business people stay in this place.

Best north of the polar circle???
I've stayed three times at the Polyarnie Zori hotel. Satisfied every time, though eating breakfast in neon lights is not my favorite. The rooms are comfortable with (in business class) warm floor in the bathroom (I really love this). Every 11th night is free of charge.
Sometimes other guests can have some loud fun during night time, which the personel working at the hotel "can't" do anything about... Stating in the brochures of the hotel that you will be compensated if you are not fully satisfied, they gave me a bar of chocolate when I complained that they don't seem to bother about noisy guests sometimes...
All over the hotel there are paintings by Sergienko, an artist living in Severomorsk, wich is a "closed" city not far from Murmansk. I didn't see anything like these paintings before, they are very modern and beautiful.
Unique Quality: Nice sauna with friendly people working there.
The anchor bar is also good, especially their Soljanka-soup.
People working in the souvenir shop are very nice and helpful.

The best, but not the most...
The best, and most expensive hotel is the Hotel Polyarniye Zori (vow also called Park Inn Murmansk). The hotel is renovated, the rooms are western style and have evrey comfort (tv, phone, bathroom). Prices begin at ca. USD 50.-. It is also very good, because inside there's the best bank in town for money exchange and a bancomat taking all types of credit cards. This hotel is considered THE westerners place in town. Another good choice is Hotel Meridian.
Every other hotel is either poor in qualitity, overpriced or bad situated.
