Travel Tips for Kazan'
Kremlin. Spaskaya Tower
by bugulma
Spaskaya tower was built just after storm of Kazan in 1552. Spas is the main symbol of Orthodox Church to save a life in the military trips. It's usually pictured in the banner and it was situated in the tower and therefore the tower got its name. In the end of XVIII century the Dutch clock was set in the tower with moving clock-dial. Now it's another model and every hour the bell tolls. There is a legend if you hear bells you should think a wish and it will come true completely. In my 3 days in the city I heard it twice and I hope my wishes will be reality very soon. :-)
Carriage in Bauman Street
by bugulma
In the Bauman street there is department for officail registration of the marriage. Just in front of it you can see this carriage. Some couples I saw got in and made photos, a kind of tradition for just-married persons :-). By the way, every person can get it in and make photo.

the sunken village
by globetrott
When leaving the port of Kazan / Kasan and cruising in direction of Moscow you will see these interesting ruins on an island and partly even in the lake, obviously the lake was made artificially and some villages had been flooded there and only a few higher spires are still to be seen reaching out of the water.
These ruins will show up about 15 minutes after leaving the port and before the ship will enter the lock.
The International Race Track.
by Lighthouseman
The international race track (hippodrome) ?Kazan? has recently opened (august 2005). Nevertheless, its popularity is rising day after day. This hippodrome is the biggest in Russia and one of the biggest in Europe. The 90 hectares of the race track are divided into several sites. There is a stand with a roof for 4000 people and an open-air stand for 2000 people. The hippodrome?s field has a flat horse race track 1600 meters length and obstacle-race track 1800 meters length. There is a big auxiliary side with a veterinary clinic, special pool for horses, 12 stables etc.
The hippodrome offers riding lessons for beginners, riding on horses and ponies for children. There are dozens of restaurants and bars and, certainly, you can gamble on the horses.
