It's a big city, there are many post codes. The letter will reach the addressee even without a postcode, just maybe a tad slower.

You right - it can be anywhere, but during my 4 years with VT Kazan' was the only place mentioned in relation with scam and not once (see old forum messages)! Possibly there are big scammers mafia, like one in Ekaterinburg that was arrested 2 weeks ago. The most popular adress mentioned in Kazan' is Dekabristov st.

Travel Tips for Kazan'

Kremlin. Kul-Shariff Mosque

by bugulma

Ivan IV's soldiers blew up the original mosque after storm of the city in 1552. The present mosque is built with the donation of many Moslems of the world. Now it will be more cultural center than religion one. There is a plan to situate here large library although it's not clear because religious heads want it as a mosque only of course. It's not exact copy of blown mosque because it wasn't kept even in pictures and the present view is a kind of fantasy of the builders. The mosque was open to 1000 years anniversary of th city. The entrance is free.

Mosques

by arabian10

There are numerous mosques in Kazan, some over 100 yaers old. Many are on the spit of land west of Nizhny Kaban. The Hay Market mosque (Mechet na Sennom Rynke) on Kirova ulitsa dates from 1849; the nearby Soltanov mosque (Mechet Soltanov) was built in 1868.

Naturally, the architectural regulations of the time also affected the construction of Kazan's stone mosques from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries, which were built, as a rule, where old wooden mosques had been standing before. They demonstrate a surprising variety of architecture.

Contact the university (or the Foreign Affairs Office of the university for admission) via email, fax or telephone and tell them about the specialty you want.

St.Peter and St.Pavel Church

by bugulma

The church was built in 1723-1726 in honour of Peter I The Great visited the city. In the center of the city it's possible to see the church almost in every point because the church is situated in the hill. To get nice panorama of the city is available from the church. Most of church complex buildings are significantly damaged and lay in ruins. Interior of the church you can see in my travelogue.

Bauman Street

by ozalp

This is the most famous street of Kazan. Everybody compared it to Istiklal Street of Istanbul. It is less crowded and less shiny but as a matter of fact, both streets have many in common.
It is a pedestrian street. There are several shops, some churches, an old and classy hotel, and many monuments over the street. Also there is a wire system which broadcast music to street. You listen to the same tune during your walk and this is a luxury we don’t have on Istiklal Street.
There are several restaurants (some Turkish restaurants, as well), some cafés on Bauman Street. I walked through it from University area to Kremlin. The street changes into a small, narrow road near Kremlin. But there are some old and beautiful (but some of them are about to collapse) buildings. I wished to enter the wooden church but it was getting dark and I was starving.
I’m sure this street will be much more crowded in spring or summer and I’m sure it will have more things to offer.
