It was a pleasent stay. Rooms are big and clean. Price is considerably low compared to the hotel prices in Russia. Staff speak some English. Breakfast is poor.
Unique Quality: Hotel is very close to the train station and next to it, there is McDonalds. You may not be fancy of McDonalds but it has wireless internet.

"VOLGA" HOTEL is conveniently situated in the center of Kazan. Train station, central stadium and Sport Palace stand near the hotel. Standard and Luxury type rooms both single and double are at your disposal. Room price à 25 to 70 ... There are TV, phone, mini-bar, shower in the rooms. Breakfast (buffet) is included the room price. Cafe will offer à wide choice of meals from European, Russian and Tatar cuisine. You will find interesting nights of live music in cafe. The bar offers à big variety drinks and cocktails. The most active persons can use the ïî1åØü Health Center with sauna, gym halls, solarium, massage and billiard. Conference-hall, business-center are the best places for business events, Travel agency of the hotel will offer services and assistance in the organization of interesting tours, conferences, transportation, translation, tickets reservation etc. Hairdresser's, beauty saloon, parking, laundry, banquet room, luggage room, souvenir kiosk are also available in the hotel. Friendly and qualified staff of "Volga" hotel will try its best to make pleasant the time of your staying in Kazan -city of rich millennial history.

Volga Hotel has a comfortable situation to see all sightseeing. First of all it's very close to railway station, the second it's in the center of the city, in 5 minutes from Kremlin by walk. The room was good and very comfortable to stay. I paid RUR 1000 (EUR 30around) per night for single room with shower, phone and TV (breakfast included). The only thing of problem is if you sleep bad, ask in reception the side opposite to the railway station because it's very close and in nights you'll be disturbed with train roars

Does anybody know ALL the details for setting up a trip to Kazan from California? I seem to get different info from different agencies and even an Attorney.......I have been given prices from $155.00 to over $5,000.00 for the same trip.....visa registration problems, flight vs train Moscow to Kazan....best/worse hotels in Kazan.....invitation needed , etc , etc , etc.......seems like nobody knows all the detail.......Help please!

about problems? visa, too long but i don't know the price. the ticket for airlines Moscow-Kazan-Moscow is USD 150-200 to and back, hotel, i had 3* hotel for USD 30 per night. ...
I think it's cause of 1000 anniversary of Kazan' this year. Besides I heard ( as a matter of fact i was born in Republic Tatarstan and I have a lot of friends and relatives there - and my parents live there) that the president of Republic began a programm for tourism developing and i think it's good advertising abroad. Well, i think it's possible to see everything during 2-3 days and the most interesting places in Tatarstan are nature places between cities: forests, river and so on. but in any way, the wish of tourism developing is good because we have a poor tourist structure
Touching the Siyumbike tower you may think you wish and it will be come true. As a matter of fact, my guide in Kremlin said it's enough to touch tower by one hand but you see in the picture I have touched it by 2 hands. Let's wait when my wish will fulfil altogether! :-))
One more building that beautifies the city is the mosque Kul-Sharif. Its construction began in 1996 on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin according to the project of a group of architects from the firm “Tatinvestgrazhdanproject”. The complex of the mosque is symmetrically arranged. The building of the mosque itself is in the middle of the yard and on each side of it there are 2 pavilions. The complex of the mosque includes the mosque itself, museum-library, publishing house and imam administration.
In Kazan one may observe not only construction of new modern buildings, such as “Basket-Hall”, but also reconstruction of such well-known objects of Kazan as Opera and Ballet Theatre, the hotels “Sovet” and “Kazan”, Kekin’s house and others.
Dont miss to take a closer look at the fancy iron-gate of Siyumbike Tower : it has a lot of local symbols and I think it is not really necessary to understand all of these symbols, because this ornate iron-gate is a really great work of art.
Siyumbike Tower is the "leaning tower" inside of the Kremlin-walls, just a few steps away from the president palace.
The most popular sight in Kazan for people all around the world is The Kazan Kremlin. This old stronghold was build 1000 years ago from wood. After Tsar Ivan IV conquest in 1552 it was reconstructed. So picturesque view opens for your eyes from the old walls of the stronghold. A local government is working here and this is a reason why this place so clear and safe. You can get a guide or walk yourself enjoying this medieval fortress. Kremlin is located in the center of the city and all roads go there.
The Kremlin is opened for tourists all around a clock 7 days a week and it is even free!
Blagoveshenskyi Temple /Annunciation Cathedral is the name of this large Russian Othodox Church inside of the Kazan-Kremlin-walls and in front of it you will see an interesting monument for the architects of the city : a tartar and a Russian architect, as a symbol for the main influences in architecture that had made Kazan such a unique place (see my 2nd photograph!).
The church is still an active orthodox church, but visitors are welcome, so we went inside !
