Travel Tips for Kazan'

Kremlin. Ministries House

by bugulma

Kremlin has the shortest street in the city, 500 meters around (I don't remember its name). A half of the street you can see this building, built in XIX century for administration departments. Moreover there were balls and dancing parties as well as celebration ceremonies. Nowadays the republic ministries are situated here.

Xmas in Kazan

by Lighthouseman

Christmas is a renew holiday in our country. It's celebrated on the 7th of January. It's not so popular such as new Year's Day (the most popular holiday in Russia) or Xmas in all over the world. Xmas in Russia is a religious holiday and a lot of people do to church services on that day. All churches in the Kazan are so beautiful decorated. Dozens of believers go to churches at night on the 6th January and at 0:00 on the 7th January a devine service starts in all churches all over the city. The Chime rings over Kazan.
The tradition to celebrate Xmas on the 7th January started on III A.D. Klement Alexandrian ( I'm not sure that I have translated rightly his name) mentioned the celebration of birth Jesus Christ in the East. At this time believers in the West celebrated the birth of Christ on 25th of December. But since IV A.D. Xmas has been celebrating on 25th December almost everywere. It related to an one reason: the 25th December it was nine months after The Annunciation Day (i.e. the date of holiday was related with physiological pregnancy). Despite this fact, Orthodox believers celebrate Xmas on the 7th of January.
Many believers go to Raifsky Monasetry on Xmas Day. There are so beautiful sculptures made from ice by monks. People dip into cold water of the Raifskoe Lake. It's very interesting show.
Unfortunately, Xmas in Kazan ( and in all over the Russia) isn't so popular like Xmas all over the world.

an interesting bank-building in Baumann-street

by globetrott

This very impressive building in Baumana uliza / Baumann street is nothing else than a bank. The building dates back to the 19th century and has also a great iron fence in front of it.
We had half an hour on our own to walk in this pedestrian-street, that was enough totake some photos but not enough to do some shopping...

Bauman street

by bugulma

Bauman Street was "usual" street some years ago, I mean cars drove there. But then it became a pedestrian street only. In weekend you see a crowd of people here indeed, although there are not much to see. The beginning of the street, from Tatarstan Hotel, is more or less worth visiting but in the end there are much places of reconstruction.

The Kremlin's Vault.

by Lighthouseman

In 1894 scientists from Kazan Imperial University started exploring vaults of the Kremlin, expecting to find Khan's treasures. There were a lot of legends about innumerable treasures hidden under the Kremlin. The scientists found that under an old house's basement was a 3 storied vault. Exploring it they found an underground house with dozens of rooms. This hidden house was 12 meters underground. The archeological digs have been continuing till nowadays and the scientist have found a lot of other secret subways and underground buildings. They are really treasures of the Kazan Kremlin.
