Hey, yes there is an airport in Samara, and the flight is a little longer than 1 hour, costed me about $60-70usd.
Dunno about the embassy though.
Be very carefull about having overwight luggage in Russia, they'll charge your life out of you.

There is an international airport in Samara - its code for search systems is KUF. There are direct flights to big transfer airports as Domodedovo (Moscow, Russia), Frankfurt (Germany), Hanover (Germany). Possibly there are also some direct flights to USA, but I do not know.

Stalin's bunker, his WWII...

by heplion

Stalin's bunker, his WWII refuge, and the former emergency government seat, is located in Samara. Until very recently, a state secret, this museum was recently opened to the public. I was not able to visit due to my work schedule and it's rather eratic hours, but I was told that it is located about 37 metre's underground. It is located at 167 Frunze st Phone # 33-44-33 Price is about $2.00 US

Drama Theatre

by bugulma

Drama Theatre was built in XIX century. I liked it cause of its architecture. By the way, Chapaev Monument is situated in front of the theatre. Thus, it is quite funny architecture ensemble, isn't it?

Iversky Nunnery

by bugulma

Just opposite the beer manufacture you can see the nunnery that was given back to Orthodox Church in 1995. It is Iversky Nunnery, opened in 1850 and got its name in 1860. Next years it was built 4 churches and bell tower on the territory of the nunnery. In 1919 the nunnery was closed of course and the area was divided for workers to live and 10 years later to shoe manufacture. Nowadays the restoration works are going on in all churches of the nunnery.

Parks and green zones

by bugulma

Samara is very green city and there are a lot of parks and green zones with little places of trees and flowers. Of cause there are some big parks but I like several small areas with shadow from trees, lie this on the picture on Kuyibyisheva Street.

Old wooden houses

by histamin32

Wander through the streets and alleys of old town Samara (e.g south of the Mc. Donalds restaurant and the blocks around) and look out for old - sometimes decaying - wooden houses.
Pay particularly attention to the mostly beautiful window frames.
