... find some locals! Every local at least knows somebody who owns a small hut, a datscha. Our friends took us to their datscha one day and we got to go to the banja, the russian style sauna. It is a small building (self made of big logs) with a self made oven which is fired with wood from outside. The heat is very damp and comfortable. But the best thing about it is a siberian tradition: you get slightly beaten with wet birch-branches by your sauna-fellows - the nices feeling ever, and extremely relaxing!

Monuments to General Zhukov abound in Russia, he was the hero who saved Russia from the nazi invasion, General Eisenhower, the American commander in Europe is quoted as saying:
"One day there is certain to be another order of the Soviet Union. It will be the Order of Zhukov, and that order will be prized by every man who admires courage, vision, fortitude, and determination in a soldier." -Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1945
The canal park area in the center of the city
by Upstate1NY
Extending east from the power dam is a beautifully landscaped park/plaza area. It has several features related to the origins and destiny of the city. A time capsule is of course very modern but there is also a section of the old city wall. The tower in the distance is not truly significant in the context of other things in the area, unless you count it as a monument to the modern day, it is a broadcast TV antenna! The far end is bridged by the first stone bridge built in the city.
Muddybenz's Yekaterinburg Page

I've visited Yekaterinburg in Summer and Winter and enjoyed both. Since we don't get snow in Houston, the Winter Eburg was a breezy delight with ice castle, snowy moon filled nights, warm people and just large enough to keep it interesting. In Summer they have street cafes with DJ or live music, street flea markets, cheap trams and affordable gypy taxis.
The included photo was taken the Summer of 2000. Do you notice anything missing from the photo??? Did you try, it's missing vessels, there are no water vessels at all. Those objects in the water are not water vessels (boats). I did see two boats during my two weeks: one was a kayak and a small motor boat on a trailer behind a car.
