looks like all of planes fly from Moscow, so you need Stockholm-Moscow-Tomsk. check www.s7.ru, one of Russian airlines (english is available). well, there are some hotels in Tomsk. besides Tomsk is considered as a student city maybe you will be able to find smth cheaper
There's no way to get to Tomsk for cheap. Both airlines, s7.ru and krasair.ru, charge $400+ for Moscow-Tomsk.
You can travel by train; it takes 2.5 days, but you will save a lot :)
There are so many wooden houses with carved window frames. They are so pretty and a lot of them concentrate in one area which makes a pleasant walk. The good thing is that they can still be found in the center of the city or very close by within walking distance. This is probably the rural touch of the city with its wooden architecture as well as the cats and dogs that I encountered while exploring the city.
In the central part of the city you can find a lot of wooden houses, in Oktyabr'skaya and Shishkova streets. The house on the picture was reconstructed to 400-years anniversaryof the city (in 2004). It is situated in Shishkova Street.

Tomsk was founded in 1604 to protect Russia from the invasions kalmoukes and kirghizes coming from the south, by the mountains of the Altaï. The Cossack wrote the first lines of the history of the city while repulsing the invaders time and again all along the XVIIe century.
Besides I recommend you very much to enjoy the patterns of the window of the wooden houses around Tomsk. I am sure you've never seen that before. Most of the best patterns you can find on Oktyabr'skaya and Shishkova Streets. Some of views you can see in the travelogue.
Bogoyavlensky Cathedral is situated in the central part of the city, in Lenin Square. First church was wooden and been built in 1630. The stone variation was built in 1777-1784 and after that the cathedral became the main church in the city. In 1804, for example, exactly here was read an order of Tsar Alexander I about the foundation of Tomskaya Guberniya. In 1855-1860 the cathedral was reconstructed by Nabalov architect. In soviet times the church was closed (in 1929) and used as a manufacturing building. Restoration works lasted in 2000-2004 and now we can see the cathedral in the good view.
