Hotel Yamskaya: A Small, Family-Style Hotel

The Hotel Yamskaya, located behind the Hotel Georgievskaya on a little side street, is a new property situated within about a five to ten minute walk to the famous Tobol'sk Kremlin.

Being a new property the condition of the hotel is excellent and the rooms are elegantly furnished and are extremely comfortable. The single room for a rate of about 2600RUB per night features a large entry hall, sitting area with sofa, pretty curtains, desk and chair, and a colour television with satelitte channels. The single bed is very comfortable, the bedding clean and new, and a small bedside table complete the look of the room.

The bathroom are particularly nice, featuring a Swiss-style shower with multiple shower heads, and is quite large. Towels are plentiful and are replaced daily.

The receptionists do not speak English, however are extremely welcoming (with the exception of one of them,) and do their best to make you feel at home. As I do speak limited Russian we had no problems. I was able to check in very early for no additional charge. Please note that breakfast is not included in the rate, however for the small price of 250RUB you can get a full breakfast, lunch or dinner in the dining room located in the basement of the hotel. The food is fresh and is prepared per order which is a nice treat.

Something new for Russia, the Hotel Yamskaya is a non-smoking hotel, so please keep that in mind if you do smoke. Smoking is allowed only on the outside patio. Parking is available outside the hotel or in the small lot. As I did not drive this time I do not know if there is a charge for parking.

All in all the three nights I stayed were pleasant and I can recommend this hotel, particularly for Russian tourists. For foreign tourists I think perhaps the Hotel Sibir might be a better choice.

Beautifully decorated rooms, excellent food in the dining room.

Sibir Hotel: Sibir Hotel

Under renovation in 2007, this hotel has a decent cafe and super loction near the art museum and Kremlin.
Right now you can get a room for 1200 rubles a night, but maybe this will change when the area renovations are complete.

Location right by the St Sophia, Gostiniy Dvor and Kremlin

White and Gold decorated Romanov restaurant has unique paintings of the czar's family on the ceiling.
Located in a nice area.
