The lovely inner city. Pretty colored houses in the typical east european style.
Note the concrete blocks in the suburbs from sovjet times are now covered with Coca Cola commercials.... times have been changing here!

Kremnicke Vrchy and 'Tunel'. A nice walk uphill from the Tajov camping, we reached the ridge of Kremnicke Vrchy (Hills of Kremnica) at a small tunnel, dug for shelter during the Uprise in the second world war. Although the climb is steep, the nice forest gives enough reason to rest once in a while. Decending down to Kremnica makes a nice hike. Kremnica has a small camp ground in the valley to the east (from which direction you will arrive), where the owner might insist of coming over and taste the home-made Slivovice.
Old Beautiful Hungarian Town

Banska Bystrica has been for me only going thru place when travelling to Hungary through Poland. But often I stopped there for having food and drink, and a little walk in the center admiring the romantic houses.
At that time it belonged to Tseckoslovakia, and the surrounding had much pollution, maybe depending on the season. But sometimes the air was so gray-black that difficult to see!
Banska Bystrica,The metropolis of Central Slovakia

This spectacular metropolis of Central Slovakia is my hometown
Metropolis of central Slovakia is surrounding from all of sides with mountains. As Banska Bystrica is in the hearth of Slovakia and only 15 kilometres from the geographical centre of Europe, it had to be capital city of Slovakia when Slovakia got independend. It did not become finally, because in winter due to mountains when snow falls very much, it become isolated sometimes for a day until they clean the mountain passes in surroundings. Only access to the city is by the motorway from the capital city Bratislava, so therefore it is not the capital city of Slovakia.
Banska Bystrica

Our town is more than 750 years old and now it counts about 85 - 90 thousands inhabitants.
It is a university town so many young people that are skilled in languages (mostly English, German, French) live here during the shool year. Many students come from other parts of Slovakia.
It is the number of young people that make Banska Bystrica such a lively place. There is plenty of bars, clubs, cafees and restaurants most of them are very good value and quality.
There is also quite a decent number of sites to see, monuments from medieval to present times, galleries, churches, forests and mountains are all around the town...
Huge restorations were made in the old centre of the town - it looks very nice now, but it made our town terribly indebted but I guess no one regrets that.
