by maria-belgrade

Hello dear VT members!
You've been helpfull so many times before so I hope to get some great answers again and the guestion is - what are traditional slovakian dishes that you recommend tasting while in Bratislava? The best slovakian beer or wine?

Thanks,

Be prepared for some pretty substantial meals if you're looking to eat traditional Slovak food - lots of pork, potato, cabbage and dumplings.

Our typical meal is potatoe dumplings with cheese bryndza - made from sheep milk, called Bryndzove halusky.
My fauvorite wine are this two white - Rulandske sede and Tramin cerveny. A good beer for me is black Corgon or Saris.

I used to like Zlaty Bazant beer the most. Then again - you may try home brewed beers in some places which some of them were very nice and tasty.

When in Bratislava, I always stop at the Slovak Pub for good regional food and drink. It is at Obchodna ulica near the McDonalds there. Very casual, very good. They have a website with a menu too: http://www.slovakpub.sk/eng/ I am sure the staff/guests will navigate you well as to the beers and wines. Typically, though, Slovak white wines are much better quality than the reds ( I do like the Tramins ). Zlaty Bazant is decent local beer, but the Czech beers are everywhere and also preferred.
Good luck!

Travel Tips for Bratislava

English stag party groups

by carlitoab

NOT MY FAVOURITE THING!!!

I spent over 4 months living in Bratislava and towards the summer, I saw more (and heard them from a distance) and more English "Lads" in the streets drunk in the afternoon being loud and immature. It is such a shame, the locals hate them, as do the expats and other tourists. I fear that Bratislava is turning into an urban resort for these people...

Being British, I reserve the right to criticise them!

Random street scenes

Some nice pictures taken on random streets at various streets of Bratislava at various hours of the day. There were tulips, tulips and more tulips all across the city during my trip to this beautiful city.

The Bratislava City Card.

by Askla

The Bratislava City Card might be a good option for you to save some money and also make the transportation a little bit easier. It will give you discounts in ~60 facilities and services.
Here is a link to the website:

The photographer statue

by codrutz

This statue is very interesting for me as I always walk around with at least one camera and take many pictures (maybe now everybody clicks with the digital camera but I'm doing this since I had to take dozens of negative 35mm rolls to the lab and print on paper - the hard way back then).

The statue depicts a man - with a hat of course - taking a picture with a big lens camera. The photographer is half behind the corner of the building - great!

Romantic walk around the Primate Palace

by Skipka

When you are on Main Square take a walk through the old Town Hall to the Primate Palace. It is very romantic short walk to the history. On the way you can browse in little souvenir shop where the shop owner could speak to you in many languages (hehe just some phrases but it is known that he is businessman) and you can buy there whatever will get on your mind. On the left is nice small cafe where you can have a cup of coffee that is served by disabled staff. It is a project how to integrate them into the normal life and it is pretty cute cafe after all. So you should do two pleasures in one :)
